Are plane crashes news?
Are plane crashes news?
01/04/2004 09:35 AM Can anyone tell me why an entire news cycle was taken up by the crash
of a plane full of tourists? Of course it's a tragedy for the dead and
their families, but once terrorism was ruled out early on, why was it
the headline for the day and the lead story every hour on the radio
news? Slow news day? Yeah, except for a probe about to land on another
planet. And Afghanistan on the verge of giving itself a constitution.
And the New York Times claiming that Pakistan is the hub of the
international traffic in the...

Plane Crashes, Criminal Violence, and
Terrorism: New Video Gives You the
Secrets to Avoid and Escape with Ease
04/12/2005 03:52 AMWarrior Concepts International, a professional self-protection and
personal development academy located in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, has
just released a unique and powerful video that teaches anyone how to
beat assailants, muggers, and other would-be attackers before they're
ever in danger. The video, called "Danger Prevention Tactics:
Protecting Yourself Like a Pro," also provides little-known secret
tactics and strategies for escaping from terrorist attacks, plane and
train crashes, and more. But the best part is, you don't have to be
Houdini or James Bond to make the lessons work. [PRWEB Apr 12, 2005]
Emirates Has Wi-Fi
Emirates Has Wi-Fi
07/06/2004 12:07 PMEmirates airline uses Wi-Fi to connect to Tenzing service: Tenzing had
hoped to make Emirates the first Wi-Fi equipped airline to offer
Internet access, but Lufthansa and Boeing beat them by a few weeks.
However, Emirates is the first airline to use Wi-Fi that was built
into the plane during construction. The Airbus A345 was delivered in
December with Wi-Fi ready to go. The equipped planes fly from Dubai to
New York, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, and Christchurch. Tenzing's
current generation of service is quite slow compared to Boeings: a
maximum of 128 Kbps. Emirates is using their email-only service as
well, which provides access just through a proxy to email accounts.
Tenzing's next-generation service will increase to about 450 to 900
Kbps in both directions, or even faster depending on an airline's
choice of options; it's due in 2005....

Tenzing Scores Emirates Deal
Tenzing Scores Emirates Deal
01/09/2004 09:52 PMTenzing, which offers airplane email access, will offer an onboard
WLAN for Emirates Airlines: The service will use planes' existing 2.4
Kbps satellite connection so will only allow passengers to send and
receive email, not Web surf. Tenzing says that limitation will make
the service less expensive for passengers--around $20 for a long-haul
flight compared to Connexion By Boeing's $30 for similar flights.
Users must download a client before they take off and the service will
support most POP3 accounts and some corporate VPNs. This isn't an
extremely attractive offering. If someone is willing to pay $20 to use
email onboard, they're likely willing to pay $30 to reach the Internet
and use any email. Plus, it's a hassle to have to download a client
before you take off....

Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi recently said
a>:
Iran will not give up its rights to the peaceful use of atomic
energy as well as its
right to supply nuclear fuel to its power plants.
OPEC's second
largest oil producing
nation needs nuclear power plants? Note that Iran also
has the world's second
largest natural gas reserve. Hmm. Maybe they have the
world's largest
BS reserves they are dying to export.

David Pescovitz:

Last week, my wife stumbled upon a small monograph of the work of
Iranian graphic designer
Reza
Abedini. Arabic script is naturally beautiful, and I think
Abedini's compositions, with text often a central graphic element, are
incredibly fresh and emotional. Today, my friend Anne Sanger sent me a
link to a great "Who's Who in Iranian Posters" page with links to even
more information about the country's happening graphic design scene.

Iran's blogging boom defies media control: There's an
opportunity here for me to spew some long-winded treatise about how
blogging is changing the world...but I'll just label this one as
"pretty cool" and call it good.
Take one exasperated Iranian woman. Add a computer. Hook
it up to the Internet. "And you have a voice in a country where it's
very hard to be heard," said Lady Sun, the online identity of one of
the first Iranian women to start a blog...
