George Lucas Star Wars movie is released somewhere to great fanfare.
And each time, I watch said trailer and get all excited. It looks
great, I'll say. Maybe it'll actually be good. My hopes start to rise.
And then the movie comes out, Natalie Portman is transformed by Lucas'
awful direction into the worst actress ever, and I leave the theatre
disappointed that a cherished childhood institution has been handled
in such a piss-poor manner. With the impending release of Episode III
and the trailer during last night's episode of The OC, I have vowed
not to get my hopes up. Never again, George Lucas, will you disappoint
me.
However.
OMFG THE TRAILER FOR THE NEW STAR WARS MOVIE IS SOOO GREAT AND
EXCITING AND THIS MOVIE IS GOING TO KICK SO MUCH ASS!!!

nightmare scenario is that high-definition TV will become
"Napsterized," with shows available online to anyone, anytime, for
free -- which may sound, to some TV fans, less like a nightmare than a
heavenly dream.
And, indeed, despite Hollywood's efforts, it's a dream that in many
ways is coming true. While the government and Hollywood fret over ways
to keep high-definition television off the Internet, copies of
standard-definition TV shows are now heavily traded online. Once an
underground activity plagued by hard-to-use tools and
less-than-stellar picture quality, the systems for finding and
downloading TV are steadily becoming easier to use, and the current
watchability of the shows is nothing to scoff at.
In recent months, a host of developers and TV enthusiasts have been
working on ways to improve the TV trade online -- they're building
sophisticated trading networks to record and encode and distribute
shows, and they're improving peer-to-peer transfer systems to make
downloading easier. The hottest new improvement is made possible by
the merging of two of the Internet's newest innovations, the p2p
protocol BitTorrent and RSS, the popular Web syndication standard.
Together, these systems allow a computer to automatically find and
download a user's favorite shows -- something like having a TV station
designed just for you.

whether people prefer to rent or buy their music -- which
is a totally misleading question. The way the industry works right
now you simply
cannot buy music. You can only buy a somewhat
limited license to listen to music in certain circumstances. That's
quite different than buying, and seems much more akin to renting. The
real question they're asking in the article is whether people will
prefer to pay-per-download for music or to buy a subscription service
for unlimited streams of music (with limited abilities to move songs
to portable media devices). This is sort like asking what kind of
horses you think will pull the next generation of buggies around, just
as cars are starting to zip up and down the streets. Even the article
just mentions in passing (and then drops entirely) the fact that more
than 3 times the number of people who have ever paid to download a
song accessed file sharing networks in July alone. While they're
arguing over which business model will work most like what's worked in
the past and ignoring where all the actual people are, the industry is
pretty much guaranteeing that the real next music delivery platform
won't involve them at all.
