iRATE radio has placed
3,000 CC-licensed tracks from the non-evil Magnatune label into "rotation."
iRATE is a collaborative filtering system for music. The first song
new users have the opportunity to rate is Monsters from Magnatune artist Beth Quist.
A future iRATE skin will include CC license indicators in the main
display. Here's a sneak preview sent to us by iRATE's creator,
Anthony Jones:

08/11/2004 09:11 PM Soundclick, one of the
Internet's biggest music community sites, prominently integrated our
license engine just one month ago. In that time, over 30,000 tracks
have been licensed under Creative Commons licenses. Genres vary, and
many of the tracks allow derivatives, so break out your music editing
software and mix away.

release.

got a passion for the golden age of science fiction radio dramas. He
wrote a six-part series of radio plays about the early days of science
fiction fandom, which were produced by the wonderful
Shoestring Theater and aired last
summer on NPR. Hugh and Shoestring have released all six epiisodes as
MP3s under a Creative Commons license that allows for the
noncommercial redistribution -- give them a listen, they're way boss.

Cambridge SoundWorks Mick Fleetwood
Signature Model Twelve Speakers
Cambridge SoundWorks Mick Fleetwood
Signature Model Twelve Speakers
08/18/2004 08:38 AM
When I go into the local
middle- and high-schools each week for my "Gizmodo: Talkin' Teen"
heart-to-heart rap session, the number one inquiry I get from the kids
during our Q&A is, "Yo, when is Mick Fleetwood going to endorse a
set of Cambridge SoundWorks portable speakers?" And I chuckle a little
then, and walk over and my put my hand on their shoulder, and try to
explain to these mixed up young persons that despite their enduring
affection for Fleetwood Mac's seminal 1977 release Rumors, the
pressures of Big Media conglomerates have persisted to keep Mick out
of the speaker game. Then we all smoke a big doob because I'm
down.
But next week, when some young gangbanger inevitably asks me that
very same question, I'm going to look them right in the eyes and
whisper into the mic, "Today, my young peer. Today."
Cambridge SoundWorks has not mentioned if it is appropriate to call
the $400 Mick Fleetwood Signature Model Twelves' included amplifier
the "Stevie Mixer," probably because that's sort of lame.
