Future of the Palm OS
Future of the Palm OS
06/02/2004 08:53 AMThe name of the conference room at
PalmSource was "Absolute Panic"'
-- but the Sunnyvale company's chief executive was a picture of calm
when I stopped by a couple of weeks ago.
Dave Nagel's confidence may have been shaken a bit since then,
especially given Tuesday's announcement that Sony, one of the
company's important customers, was on its way toward
aban
doning the arrangement (Mercury News).
But it would be premature, at best, to assume that the Sony move is a
sign of doom.

Palm Tungsten 3 Update
12/11/2003 04:55 PM
PalmOne have released a
T3 Update which fixes some SD Card issues and an audio
interrupt problem which caused the 400Mhz processor to run at slower
speeds -- typically hovering around 260Mhz.
WARNING: Be sure to backup first! Yes, I know you're always told to
do a backup before an update, but this time it's for real. The update
flashes the ROM, giving all your settings the boot -- and I mean _all_
of them. To be sure you're backing up, open your Palm's HotSync
Manager, select Hotsync > Conduit Settings > double-click
Backup, check the Backup radio box, and click OK. HotSync. Do the T3
Update per their instructions. Come back to this dialog box and
select Restore from backup, then HotSync again to put everything back
as it was. You may indeed see some of those old appointments and
todos re-appearing if you chose to Save a Copy on the PC when you
deleted them somewhere along the line.

Palm Dropping Mac OS Sync Support
02/12/2004 11:17 AMApple continues to be marginalized. Now it's Palm's turn. The company
is
dropping
Mac conduit suport in its upcoming Palm 6 ("Cobalt") operating
system, says Brighthand. A third party will do it, but this is like
adding $40 to the cost of your next handheld if you buy a Palm OS
model and use a Mac. Disappointing, to say the least.
