It looks like it's more for hardcore car audio types than your standard, all-purpose gadget tweaker, but the Aux-Pod looks like it might be the in-car iPod interface of choice for those doing a custom rig-up. Although it appears to be mostly just a cable, wiring harness, and interface black box (read: no cradle or holder for the iPod itself), the Aux-Pod kit does allow a full integration of the iPod's controls into your cars built-in switches, so you can change tracks (and maybe more) using the toggles on your steering wheel or head unit. It will even charge the iPod when it's plugged in (unplugged, strangely, it does not charge). (Thanks, Michael!)

T-Mobile installs its service at Washington's American University: This unique relationship benefits T-Mobile enormously, but it's ambiguous what the university gets out of it. The release makes it clear that T-Mobile isn't overlaying a network on the existing wireless LAN at the university, but has installed its own network in 10 buildings. Students, faculty, and staff will receive discounted rates on T-Mobile's cell and Wi-Fi service off-campus, which is a more significant revenue opportunity for the No. 6 cell carrier than the potential revenue from an on-campus for-fee WLAN. The university's only benefit is that they don't have to bear the cost of installing and maintaining a guest-only WLAN and handling access to it. I've heard horror stories from various conferences, including one at Stanford of all places, where attendees had to send in their wireless adapter's MAC address ahead of time to gain free access during the event. Still, it means that guests to American University will be paying for Wi-Fi on campus and it will only be accessible in certain locations on campus. At other institutions, universities have built virtual LAN infrastructure and entirely or partially opened a partitioned guest-only Wi-Fi network everywhere....

Abstract:
The World Wide Web is now undeniably the richest and most dense source of information; yet, its structure makes it difficult to make use of that information in a systematic way. This paper proposes a pattern discovery approach to the rapid generation of information extractors that can extract structured data from semi-structured Web documents. Previous work in wrapper induction aims at learning extraction rules from user-labeled training examples, which, however, can be expensive in some practical applications. In this paper, we introduce IEPAD (an acronym for Information Extraction based on PAttern Discovery), a system that discovers extraction patterns from Web pages without user-labeled examples. IEPAD applies several pattern discovery techniques, including PAT-trees, multiple string alignments and pattern matching algorithms. Extractors generated by IEPAD can be generalized over unseen pages from the same Web data source. We empirically evaluate the performance of IEPAD on an information extraction task from 14 real Web data sources. Experimental results show that with the extraction rules discovered from a single page, IEPAD achieves 96% average retrieval rate, and with less than five example pages, IEPAD achieves 100% retrieval rate for 10 of the sample Web data sources.
