Alleged Technology Infringement by
Acterna Corporation’s DSAM 2500 Cable
Modem Tester
09/27/2004 03:30 AMRichard C. Jaworski announces that the US Patent Office has granted
his “Petition to Make Special” on his System of Testing the Upstream
Cable Modem Channel (TUCMC) patent application. The petition to the US
Patent Office alleged infringement of his technology by Acterna
Corporation in their DSAM 2500 Cable Modem Test Instrument. Mr.
Jaworski has written evidence that Acterna knew of the patent and the
technology prior to releasing the feature in the DSAM 2500. According
to patent law, triple damages are applicable for prior knowledge
infringement as soon as the patent issues. Due to its special status,
Jaworski expects the patent to issue in the immediate future. [PRWEB

The Wide Range of Abilities and Its
Impact on Computer Technology
The Wide Range of Abilities and Its
Impact on Computer Technology
01/18/2004 11:30 PMIn 2003, Microsoft Corporation commissioned Forrester Research, Inc.,
to conduct a study to measure the potential market of people in the
United States who are most likely to benefit from the use of
accessible technology for computers. Accessible technology enables
individuals to adjust their computers to meet their visual, hearing,
dexterity, cognitive, and speech needs. It includes both accessibility
options built into products as well as specialty hardware and software
products (assistive technology products ) that help individuals
interact with a computer.
The goals of this study were to identify the range of physical and
cognitive abilities among working-age adults and current computer
users in the United States, the types of difficulties and impairments
that limit the scope of activities and their degree of severity, and
the number of people who could potentially benefit from using
accessible technology. This information, coupled with aging population
trends, can help to explain the aging population's impact on computer
use and need for accessible technology.

Wi-Fi Campus-wide Commercially
Auckland University of Technology Takes
Wi-Fi Campus-wide Commercially
07/29/2004 01:06 AMAUT will rely on Reach Wireless to install a campus-wide, commercial
hotzone: In the U.S., we're used to universities and other educational
institutions installing Wi-Fi as part of their basic infrastructure,
including the cost of operation out of their physical plant or IT
budget, alum fund, students fees (partly hidden), or other endowments.
Auckland, New Zealand's technology institute has turned to commercial
operator Reach Wireless, which employs RoamAD's quasi-mesh/cell Wi-Fi
architecture, to deploy a hotzone across campus and handle the
finances. AUT will own the infrastructure and carry the hotzone's
traffic over its own Internet feed. But Reach Wireless will operate
the service, collect fees, and provided customer and billing support.
Students and faculty will be charged NZ$16.95 (US$15.25) per month.
Existing Reach customers and the general public will also be able to
use the campus network. Current subscribers won't pay extra for
access; vice-versa, AUT affiliated subscribers will have Reach within
reach at a small additional cost off campus. Here's the kicker from a
press release: The network was designed in one day and deployed in
less than a week....
