01/06/2005 11:58 PMPowerLogix and Other World Computing (OWC) today announced the
PowerForce 750GX G3 processor upgrade for original PCI-based Apple
Power Macintosh computers. It is immediately available for $239.99 and
is the fastest upgrade option ever produced for legacy PCI Power Mac
models. It operates at 1GHz and includes 1.0 MB of L2 cache, also
running at 1GHz. The PowerForce 750GX utilizes the 20x bus multiplier
of the IBM PowerPC 750GX processor to allow older PCI-based Power Macs
to reach 1GHz speeds.

Gotta love those Koreans. 10 years ago no one
even mentioned Korea in terms of hi-tech.
Today not only does Korea have the highest percentage of broadband
penetration - but also two major players in our World - Samsung and
LG.
All I can say is that the folks at the local Korean BBQ place
(Brothers on Geary) know me and my family pretty well. My
children have been raised on Bul Go Ki, Kim Chee and Jap Chey - and
they fight for a turn at the grill.
This article is on home networking - but they're also leading in
memory, LCDs, cell phone and industriousness. I've heard stories
of 12 hours shifts going on hand-in-hand between Kansas City and
Seoul.

09/07/2004 01:04 AMKTF to Pioneer Ubiquitous Orchestra With Mobile
Baton
"Today the number of mobile phone subscribers has surpassed 35
million, and accounts for 75 percent of the total population.
In particular, almost all people in their 20s and 30s own their
mobile phones and a mobile phone is the most wanted birthday present
among elementary school students.
Not too long ago a mobile phone symbolized wealth and power, now,
in such a short time it has become a necessity....
With such advanced mobile infrastructure in place, everyday life is
rapidly going mobile.
Sookmyoung Women¡¯s University in Seoul is the case in
point and currently attracting attention from all over the world.
Under an initiative to build a mobile campus with KTF, students now
use their mobile phones with built-in student ID card to enter a
library, borrow a book and inquire about personal records.
They installed an attendance check system at a large lecture hall
whereby students can simply touch their phone to the system to record
their attendance.
And hospitals are now getting in on this too. Samsung Medical
Center now uses PDAs to identify and check patient records including
the status of a patient, treatment records, prescription, test results
anytime and anywhere. Much more convenient and reliable than the
bulky, paper records of the past....
More interestingly, now mobile phones are used as means for
well-being by providing information such as blood sugar, diet and
meditation. A mobile phone even offers services like driving away
mosquitoes, a finger vibrator for hand acupuncture and music therapy,
a guard service by sounding a siren, a location tracking service and
product information in which a camera phone is used to read a
barcode." [The Korea

Sales of MP3 Mobile Phones to Break 5 Million at Home This
Year
"This year, LG Electronics introduced Korea's first MP3 mobile
phone, the LP3000, which has sold over 300,000 units, and the company
expects that the sale of their MP3 models will easily smash through 1
million units this year. An LG official noted that of the 20 new
models to be introduced in the domestic market by the end of this
year, 80~90 percent of them will be MP3 phones. He also said MP3
functions will become a basic function of mobile phones like camera
function.
Pantech & Curitel said it expects 1 million of its 3 million
units of supply to be MP3 phones. Most of its 15 new models will be
MP3 mobile phones. The company added, 'We plan to provide MP3 function
as a basic function.' It explained that therefore, the domestic MP3
market should greatly expand." [The Digital Chosunilbo

History Lesson:
Heart of the matter by Hayami Ichikawa and others at Asahi
Shimbun in Japan pinpoints
the real issue behind the ongoing conflict between Japan and Korea
over Dokdo (Takeshima)
islets: Koizumi and his cabinet are clueless.
Hayami understands why Koreans are so upset over Dokdo and explains
it well:
To the South Koreans, Takeshima, a group of islets called Tokto in
Korean, represents
a symbol of Japan's 1910-45 colonization of the
Korean Peninsula.
The incorporation of the Sea of Japan isles into Shimane Prefecture
on Feb. 22, 1905,
is viewed as a prelude to what Japan was later to inflict upon the
peninsula.
It's now 2005 and it seems to be happening all
over again.
Japanese government's history whitewashing service covers US too
because mentions
of the fact that no WMD has been found in Iraq were removed from
school textbook drafts
at the request of Japanese government officials.
Pretty funny? Well, not if you consider that Japan is trying
to buy a seat in
the UN Security Council. Brrrrr!

07/29/2004 11:30 AM
So we knew Motorola's new
V710 was going to be hitting Verizon Wireless sometime in August, but
internal documents reveal the exact date will be the 11th (and by
internal documents I mean a PDF on their site, so peruse away.)
Pricing looks about standard for a phone in this range: $420 at full
retail; as low as $320 subsidized with a two-year contract.
The most interesting information, though, are the three listed
Bluetooth Accessories, a headset ($80), a car kit ($200 ouch!),
and an external speaker ($100). While their function is pretty much
self-explanatory, what they don't address is that niggling rumor that
the V710 somehow uses a non-standard Bluetooth implementation (which
would mean other, less-expensive third-party peripherals wouldn't
work). I guess we'll have to wait until someone gets their hands on
one to confirm. (Thanks, Barry!)

Verizon has announced the
highly-anticipated Motorola V710 -- a 1.23-megapixel and Bluetooth
clamshell phone -- is now shipping and should be available nationwide
by August. I know it doesn't make sense that Verizon has gotten a hot
phone before other carriers, let alone get a hot phone and sell it for
around $250 (after rebates and contracts, natch), but these are the
strange days we live in.
Word on the street, though, is that the Bluetooth connectivity is
crippled and can only be used with a few wireless earpieces and
Verizon Wireless's proprietary syncing software. Now that
sounds more like the Verizon we know. (Thanks, Aaron!)

aren't as safe. Jaw-droppingly unsafe, you could say.
And if you're taking a call on the helmet and have stopped riding,
the headset detaches and can be worn in a neck loop. Now I just need
