08/23/2004 08:21 AMMost out there enjoy hacking around on scripts, sometimes altering
others' Open Source code to meet their needs. What happens, though, if
you decide to make that step and jump out with your own Open Source
project? How can you do it? What resources do you need? Well,
this new article
(via a link from

can give you all of the answers and more.

03/19/2003 10:25 PMGirlHacker's put together a list of everything going into to the
generously stocked, and apparently very large, gift bags being given
away to presenters and nominees at this weekend's Academy Awards
ceremony. Besides the usual stuff you'd expect to find like Hermes
beach towels, Givere chocolate truffles, and gift certificates to day
spas, there are a few gadgets in there as well, like a Sprint
cameraphone with a Fendi case (!), a pair of Beamer BM80 videophones,
a Photosmart 715 digital camera from HP, and a Delphi XM SKYFI
portable satellite radio with a free one year subscription.

More mirrors....pretty please?
More mirrors....pretty please?
12/02/2003 12:29 AM
While we welcome our latest full mirror in Norway, sponsored by Havar
Valeur,
we crave more. To improve our service to all of you, we would
like to ask that
you evaluate carefully if you maybe do have the resources to
become a mirror.
All it takes is a 10Mbit link, around 100MB of disk space and
some bandwidth you are
willing to share for Fink. The exact setup instructions for
rsync mirrors can be found
here. Especially mirrors in
Asia, Australia, New Zealand, South Europe and Middle Europe
are welcome, since we have none in
those regions yet. If you feel generous and wish to donate
even more resources, please visit
finkmirrors.net to learn about your options.
The current status of all available rsync mirrors can be
viewed on the finkmirrors.net pages as well.
We hope to improve this service in the future, yet this
depends on your willingness to help us out.
We are looking forward to many new applications and thank our
community in advance.

iPaq rz1715 Reviewed; Not Pretty
07/30/2004 07:07 AM
iPaqHQ has one of the first
reviews of the new HP iPAQ rz1715 "Mobile Media Companion" Pocket PC,
and let's just say that they aren't terribly impressed. It's not that
it's bad so much as it's not any better than previous
generations (like the h1945, say), and in a few objective ways (it's
larger; it doesn't have a removable battery; it has less memory; no
Bluetooth) and some subjective ways (it's too square; Carly Fiorina
cut me off in the deli line) it's clearly worse. So the moral
of the story is basically that, for the low-end Pocket PC customer,
it's time to start checking out the Dell Axim X30.
