Comcast makes offer on Disney

Comcast makes offer on Disney 02/11/2004 12:29 PM
Comcast has made a $66 billion offer for Disney.
Comcast also released a letter sent to Eisner indicating that Eisner had personally rejected Roberts' offer to enter into discussions about a merger earlier in the week.

The letter from Roberts called it "unfortunate" that Eisner was not willing to enter into discussions. "Given this, the only way for us to proceed is to make a public proposal directly to you and your board," the letter stated.

Under the merger, Comcast said it would issue 0.78 of a share of its stock for each Disney share, and Disney shareholders would retain 42 percent of the combined company.

Disney Believes In Better Customer

Disney Believes In Better Customer
Service Through Spam
12/23/2003 06:55 PM
The folks over at Disney have pulled the old switcheroo trick where they suddenly decide, after the fact, to chang e their privacy policy for their online sites, which they say is necessary for better customer service. Specifically, they say that Disney customers increasingly want to be able to tie their offline and online activities together, but as current online privacy policies forbid them from sharing info between their own entities, certain info that would be useful to share between, say, Disney online and a Disney theme park cannot be shared. However, at the same time, they're also sneaking in changes to make it easier for their "selected partners" to spam you. Even better, according to some, the "opt out" options they give you have been turning up "Page Not Found" 404 errors.

MSN Japan to offer Blog service

MSN Japan to offer Blog service 08/05/2004 12:17 AM
Thanks SYBOLD. According to the report at Reuters, MSN Japan, joining hands with local content provider, T.O.S Co. Ltd., will launch a Blogging service by next week.

The Blogging culture has in deed made its impression to Microsoft's chairman, Bill Gates whom hinted not long ago that he too, could start blogging. MSN hopes to compete with Google's Blogger and expected one million users in the first year.

Apart from supporting the overwhelming demands in the country where 9 out of 10 houses are web-enabled, MSN Japan is also hoping to use this service as advertising medium.

"Magazines, for example, cannot hit a break-even point if the circulation is below 100,000. We target one million users to be recognized as an effective advertising vehicle," said MSN Japan GM, Yoshie Furukawa.

The service, according to Furukawa, will differentiate from others by supporting mobile devices to allow users to read or update their blog on mobile phones.

It is still unclear whether the service will also be offered in other countries.

Linspire CEO To Offer Music Service With
No DRM Restrictions
02/05/2005 10:16 PM

Former MP3.com chief and Linspire CEO Michael Robertson will reenter the music world next week with MP3tunes, a service that promises music without DRM restrictions.

The announcement will be made next week at the Linspire Desktop Summit, where a new VOIP company, SwitchVox, will also be launched. Robertson's other venture, SIPphone, will also introduce a $39 device designed to facilitate Internet calling.

Robertson said he's not worried about the record labels and their requirements for rights-management technology. At the time it was sold, Robertson said, MP3.com attracted top artists, like Maroon 5 and Linkin Park. "I think the labels are interested in one thing: selling," he said. "If you build the audience they will come."
