hacker/swag heaven to dealmakers' paradise over the last few years,
there is still a dot.org pavilion in the back of the exhibit hall
where you'll find the non-profit groups that are the true heart of all
this. Today we take you to several of those humble booths.

With a low barrier to entry, high developer popularity, and good
software integration, PHP scripting language appealed to Victorian
start-up Komodo for its development of a commercial, enterprise-grade
content management system. Komodo"s managing director David Warwick
said a look at a variety of programming languages showed PHP was the
most suitable tool to use. Read more.

LinuxWorld: Pictures at an exhibition
01/22/2004 10:25 AMAt Linux World Conference and Expo in New York at 10 a.m. on the
show's first day, a milling throng filled the lobby of the Javits
Center, waiting for the opening bell, as it were. It was a happy sight
for Linux boosters, one that hasn't been seen since 2000 or 1999.
While show organizer IDG doesn't have attendance figures ready for
publication yet, my impression was that attendance was way up over the
past few years' worth of LinuxWorlds. Exhibitors were out in force,
too. While the show floor seemed to occupy no more square feet than
last year, that is probably because while there were more exhibitors,
the average booth size was smaller. But those booths were, for the
most part, active all day.

FireFox "Best In Show" at LinuxWorld
08/04/2004 05:03 PMMozilla FireFox has been
awarded "Best In Show" at the LinuxWorld conference, which is
taking place this week at the Moscone Center in 'Frisco.
"The winners of the LinuxWorld Product Excellence Awards
represent the best that open source has to offer," said Warwick
Davies, group vice president, IDG World Expo. "With the help of
LinuxWorld Magazine and our experienced judges, we have selected the
most innovative and effective solutions for users of Linux and open
source. We applaud the developers of these solutions for their hard
work and dedication to innovation."
The "Best of Show" award, which recognizes a product deemed by the
judges to be an important advancement and a major step forward for
Linux in the marketplace, was presented to the Mozilla Foundation for
Mozilla FireFox.
It's great to see FireFox get such a nod, but I'll admit that I'd
never heard of the rest of the winners.
Incidentally, Netcraft found it amusing that the
LinuxWorld web site runs on Windows Server 2003.

LinuxWorld Expo 2005
LinuxWorld Expo 2005
03/14/2005 04:52 PMLinuxWorld Expo is one of the biggest corporate Linux events of the
year. All the major players in Linux are there, plus a whole bunch of
familiar names from the open source community. This year, Ars Technica
sent a couple of correspondents to LinuxWorld Expo 2005 to report back
on happenings there. Jorge Castro and Matt Woodward spent the day
wandering around the floor, visiting the corporate side and the .Org
Pavillion.
The non-commercial .Org Pavilion was packed most of the
day. The KDE, GNOME, LTSP, Gentoo, X.org, and Fedora booths saw lots
of activity, and it was fun to see attendees interacting with the
hackers that make their software.
The announc
ement of Novell's Hula was definitely the big news of the day, but
that's not all. Check out day one of the Linux.Ars coverage of the
Expo.
