It's a busy Friday for Aspyr Media Inc.. They released a demo version of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, available for download from MacGameFiles. com. They also published a mini Web site containing information about Call of Duty, a new World War II-era action game that took center stage for Aspyr's announcements from Macworld Conference & Expo earlier this month.

Aspyr Media Inc. on Friday offered a playable demo version of its new World War II-era first person shooter Call of Duty. The game takes you to famous historical battles from D-Day to Stalingrad as you fight in the persona of US, British and Russian soldiers assaulting the Nazi war machine. System requirements for the demo call for a G3/G4/G5/700MHz or faster, 256MB RAM and an ATI Radeon 7500 or Nvidia GeForce2 MX or better 3D graphics card with at least 32MB of VRAM. The demo measures in at 256.4MB, so make sure to download from a fast connection, or be prepared to wait a while. More general information about Call of Duty is available from Aspyr's Web site.

Earlier on Wednesday Aspyr Media Inc. announced that it would publish a Mac version of Lord of the Rings: Return of the King in April. The company later let it be known that two other games it's already been working on are done and out the door: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield and Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

Mac game publisher Aspyr Media Inc. announced Friday that it will soon release a Mac conversion of LucasArts' Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is the followup to Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, a game released for the Mac last year by Aspyr Media. Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is the latest Mac game to get the Star Wars treatment. Players take on the role of a Jedi student learning the ways of the Force by Master Luke Skywalker.

Aspyr Media Inc. offered up more details Wednesday about its forthcoming conversion of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, the last game Aspyr has teamed up with LucasArts to bring to Mac gamers. Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy is the sequel to last year's game Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast, also brought to the Mac by Aspyr. Based in the Star Wars universe, this game puts players in the role of a new student learning the ways of The Force from Master Luke Skywalker.

Game publisher Aspyr Media announced on Monday that the company plans to distribute a Mac version of the game CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Based on the popular TV show, the game places you in the well-worn shoes of a member of the CSI team as you investigate five crime scenes with an arsenal of forensic equipment. Real music and locations from the TV show are also employed to make you feel like you're part of the action. Aspyr expects to ship the game in August with a US$29.99 price tag. System requirements call for Mac OS 9.2.2 or Mac OS X v.10.2 or higher, a 500MHz or faster processor, 256MB RAM, 500MB hard drive space and 32MB of video RAM.

Aspyr Media Inc. is offering gamers a playable demo version of their recently released title Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. Licensed from LucasArts, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb is a third person action game featuring the legendary adventurer and archaeologist seen in movies. This game brings Indy to 1935, where he must prevent a powerful Chinese artifact from falling into the wrong hands. Indy goes up against nefarious figures from the Chinese underground and, of course, Nazis, as he gains a new partner -- the lovely Mei Ying. The game features plenty of action as Indy makes his way through level after level of danger and pitfall, battling enemies, collecting artifacts and clues and more.

Aspyr Media Inc. on Friday released a playable demo version of the latest expansion pack for Medal of Honor to get the Mac treatment: Medal of Honor Allied Assault Breakthrough. This expansion pack brings Medal of Honor players to the desert sands of North Africa and then to Italy as they fight Nazis during World War II. The demo measures 189.9MB and requires Mac OS X v10.2.6 or later or Mac OS 9.2.2, G3/800MHz or faster and 256MB RAM. While this demo version does not require original Medal of Honor: Allied Assault in order to work, the full version does -- it costs US$29.99.

Above and Beyond the Call of Duty The St. Petersburg Times reported this week that Army Sgt. 1st Class Paul R. Smith, killed in action in Iraq on April 4, 2003, will be posthumously awarded the Congress ional Medal of Honor. Sgt. Smith had always said he would give "all that I am to make sure all my boys make it home." The Medal of Honor is awarded "for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty." Marine Cpl.
