Los Angeles Times - It was New Year's Eve, and we wanted to get a sense of the Iraqi mood by joining the party at Nabil's Restaurant, a popular hangout. As the day wore on, our group — foreign journalists and Iraqi staff — had grown larger. A picture taken before we headed out shows us, dressed up and smiling, offering a plastic-cup champagne toast.

From the floor

From the floor 07/29/2004 10:05 AM
The bloggers' credentials allow us to go onto the floor only if we get an hour's special dispensation from the media papal office. So, yesterday I did a tour just as the post-dinner speakers began at 6:50. My view was skewed by the fact that, as a visitor, I had nowhere to sit, although I did ease my aching dogs for a few minutes by perching in the press galleries that flank the main stage. The galleries have about ten vertical rows of blue-marble formica desks that look out over the floor. Surprisingly, the section to the left of...

$10 robotic floor cleaner

$10 robotic floor cleaner 04/04/2005 06:26 PM
Mark Frauenfelder: In the latest edition of Cool Tools, James Tierney reviews a $10 floor cleaner called the RoboMaid that looks a little like a Roomba.
 Ccimg.Catalogcity.Com 200000
209700 209703 Products 12052852Robomaid is a low tech, very cheap version of Roomba cleaner.  It doesn't clean rugs, but has done a great job on our wood, tile, and stone floors.   The design is wonderful in its elegance: a powered ball propelling a sweeping "hat".  Like Roomba it cleans along walls, under tables and desks, and in corners where it would be difficult to clean otherwise.  It uses no intelligence, so it randomly changes direction, but is surprisingly thorough.  Especially since I don't care how long it takes.

KLOC Floor Lounger

KLOC Floor Lounger 07/09/2004 10:22 AM

So I discovered this awesome thing. If you sleep three extra hours in the morning, you'll feel fantastic, but for some reason, everything is three hours ahead. Perhaps if I had been sleeping on this KLOC Floor Lounger last night instead of a hard subway bench I wouldn't have neglected my internal clock's alarms -- not that it is meant for sleeping. Instead, the idea is that, when surfing or playing games or whatever, you'll have a handy lump to learn against, like an accommodating neighborhood floor-level hunchback. For Macintosh only (because of the Mac, right? Get it?).

iMac G5s on the Showroom Floor

iMac G5s on the Showroom Floor 08/31/2004 11:20 AM

imacg5 imageI thought this picture from the floor in Paris does a lot better job of illustrating what the new iMac G5s look like in real life than Apple's product images. Plus it gives me an excuse to remind you guys we've already talked about it once today, but you keep getting distracted by the Ellis interview and forgetting to scroll down. I forgive you. (Thanks, Knutmo!)
