DotGeek: Mcrypting Your Data Simply 02/19/2004 10:09 AM
Some programmers out there look to PHP to provide them with all of the web application features that they might need, including a way to encrypt sensitive data like passwords or bank account numbers. One way has always been to md5 it and just use that data generated, but there's another two-way encrpytion that DotGeek. org is covering today.

01/22/2004 03:31 PM
"[The study] found that although Atkins dieters were allowed to eat as much as they liked, they ate as few calories as those on the low-calorie diets and significantly fewer than they would eat normally. The findings, the programme suggests, solve the mystery of how the Atkins diet works. 'It might have nothing to do with calories being lost and apparently nothing to do with burning more calories. Neither does it seem to be due to gorging on fats,' it says. Instead, 'protein makes you feel full.'"

Jason Kottke fund drive simply amazing!

Jason Kottke fund drive simply amazing! 04/11/2005 05:49 AM

I am not really sure what the attraction is over at Jason Kottke weblog but he obviously has a very large probably one of the largest weblog followings on the net and he has published the results of his annual fund-drive.

Incidentally he made enough to blog for a year and nearly matched his old salary. This to me is fascinating in that people would send that much money to one weblogger. I guess I better put his site on a daily read and see what he has to say.

Those of you that have been reading for a while know I am looking to write this weblog and podcast fulltime within about 26 months. This is a significant goal time will tell but being I have a wife, four kids a dog and everything that goes with that my replacement income is probably significantly more than what Jason had to raise but again I could be wrong.

The way I figure it at this point it would take every last person reading this weblog and listening to the podcast to have to contribute about $50.00 each and I am sure their are not that many people that can afford that. But hey I have 26 months or so to build up the readership so that we can cut that number down to a reasonable amount. [Jason Kottke]

I'd like to change the "Individual Archive" template for my TypePad-hosted blogs so that comments can only be posted within seven days of an entry's creation. Basically, something like this for each entry:

<MTEntryIfCommentsOpen>
 if within 7 days
 show comment form
 else
 show "Sorry, comments can no longer be posted."
</MTEntryIfCommentsOpen>

Does anyone know if this is possible, and if so, how it's done?

Replace and disable Internet Explorer

07/02/2004 08:16 AM
You've probably heard about a particularly nasty Trojan horse attack recently which exploited several vulnerabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer and Internet Information Services. While viruses and Trojans have been around for years, this particular attack was new because it used several vulnerabilities at once, and it didn't require the user download or install any programs or visit any malicious Web sites. It's time to say goodbye to Internet Explorer and its security flaws forever. Here's how to do it.

Its comfortable interface, adherence to Apple's OS X technologies, and new Audio Units support make for a great working environment. If you must work with a huge number of tracks, you may want to investigate Emagic's Logic or wait until you buy a G5; otherwise, there's no reason not to start using Digital Performer now.
