being killed. I must remember as one journalist advised, "write in

But in this room, where every piece of information is broken down
quantitatively--number of patrols, number of raids, number of IEDs
(improvised explosive devices), number of detainees, number of weapons
-- and put back together in the form of a task completed or a mission
to be accomplished, Operation Thunder Road, Operation Ivy Cyclone,
the problems and solutions seem remarkably clear an seductively

community here was very pampered during his rule. But now U.S. forces
feels it's a nest of former regime loyalists and anti coalition
fighters. It's wrapped the entire town in triple layered razor wire.
Male residents must register and carry ID cards. There is only one
checkpoint that all four-thousand residents must enter and leave
through. This man was already cleared to exit, but spun his wheels in
anger on the way out. A U.S. soldier had a bead on him with his M-16
before he stopped his car. The second search was bit more invasive.

There's a nice piece in the NYTimes about the
increased levels of public participation in recent Mars landings. A
big part of the reason is that given a large, interested population
with broadband connections, NASA officials have done their best to share every bit of data,
image, and video they can online, and as a result thousands of
websites have cropped up including those by laymen colorizing images
and even weblogs written
from the rover's point of view.
Thanks to NASA sharing every bit of information they can online, the
experience of watching the Mars landing and exploration for students
and observers today is a far cry from the days of the moon landing.
Instead of a one-way communication delivered by grainy video on
television, we have an interactive, two-way process where the viewer
can help scientists on the other side of the globe and take in
information along with millions of others, sharing their own
interpretations online.

MATT GALLANT -- Well, my week is up, and
I've saved as a parting shot the ultimate pickup game: Strange
Adventures in Infinite Space, developed by Digital Eel and published by Cheapass Games. Games take just
minutes.
There's not as much brain power required as there is in the other
games from this week; in fact your score really has more to do with
luck than anything else. But despite having probably less strategy
involved than a game of Freecell, SAIS feels like it's smarter than it
is, because it recalls elements of games with more depth, with its
goals of space exploration, combat, trade and collection.
The demo is pretty crippled compared to the full version, but the
full version costs only $15. Well, the PC and Mac versions do. There's
PocketPC and PalmOS versions too (new Tapwave Zodiac owners take
note!), available from Astraware for $19.99.
And with that fifth and final recommendation, I'm done! All five of
the games I've mentioned this week are great for spending a few
minutes with, but so playable that you'll be able to play for hours.
