NewsFactor - Providing strong evidence that Linux is a serious contender in the enterprise, HP (NYSE: HPQ) has announced some US$2.5 billion in Linux-based revenue for 2003 -- up 40 percent from 2002. The company also unveiled a number of new additions to its Linux portfolio.

NewsFactor - The SCO Group says its revenue fell by more than half in its February-through-April quarter to US$10.1 million, compared to $21.3 million from the same period a year ago. The owner of the Unix operating system says it lost $14.9 million in the quarter, after making a profit of $4.5 million last year.

Microsoft Corp. today announced record revenue of $10.15 billion for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2003, a 19% increase over $8.54 billion in the prior year. Operating income for the second quarter was $1.48 billion, compared to $2.23 billion in the prior year. Net income and diluted earnings per share for the second quarter were $1.55 billion and $0.14 per share. These results include stock based compensation expense of $2.17 billion (after-tax) or $0.20 per share, of which $1.48 billion (after-tax) or $0.14 per share related to the completion of the employee Stock Option Transfer Program. For the previous year, net income and earnings per share for the second quarter were $1.87 billion and $0.17 per share, including stock based compensation expense of $709 million (after-tax) or $0.07 per share, a $282 million (after-tax) or $0.03 per share charge for investment impairments, a $126 million or $0.01 per share tax benefit from the reversal of previously accrued taxes, and $141 million (after-tax) or $0.01 per share legal charge related to the state antitrust and unfair competition class action lawsuits.

Microsoft Corp. today announced revenue of $9.18 billion for the quarter ended March 31, 2004, a 17% increase over $7.84 billion in the prior year. Operating income for the third quarter was $1.28 billion, compared to $2.74 billion in the prior year. Net income and diluted earnings per share for the third quarter were $1.32 billion and $0.12 per share. These results include stock-based compensation expense of $748 million (pre-tax) equating to $501 million (after-tax) or $0.05 per share, and legal charges of $2.53 billion (pre-tax) equating to $1.89 billion (after-tax) or $0.17 per share related to the settlement of the Sun Microsystems Inc. litigation and a fine imposed by the European Commission. For the previous year, net income and earnings per share for the third quarter were $2.14 billion and $0.20 per share, including stock-based compensation expense of $978 million (pre-tax) equating to $655 million (after-tax) or $0.06 per share.

Adobe Systems has reported strong financial results for its second quarter ended June 3, 2005. In the second quarter of fiscal 2005, Adobe achieved record revenue of $496.0 million, compared to $410.1 million reported for the second quarter of fiscal 2004, and $472.9 million reported in the first quarter of fiscal 2005. On a year-over-year basis, this represents 21 percent revenue growth. Adobe's second quarter revenue target range was $475 to $495 million. "Adobe's performance in Q2 reflects our third consecutive quarter of record revenue, demonstrating continued execution against our strategy," said Bruce Chizen, CEO.
