01/17/2004 10:42 PM
Whatever future there is for business applications of grid computing, it won’t be shaped by technology. Business attitudes must change to embrace the technology that already exists. This is a classic example of technology that’s crucial to business having its uptake delayed by an apparent lack of demand. It isn’t a solution looking for a problem; there are plenty of existing problems to go after with grids and similar approaches to distributed computing. What sticks in the minds of many IT professionals is that grids are useful to science and academia, therefore they are likely to be too esoteric for business computing.

One main reason I detest 100% Flash-based sites so much is because they don't promote sharing and linking which are two big things to do on the Web. See a cool new game screenshot that you want to show your friend? Sorry, no can do with that 100% Flash-based site because everything is contained under one URL which is like a Cold War check point for the entire site.

Zone Labs Integrity 5.0

Zone Labs Integrity 5.0 06/29/2004 08:29 PM
Having a software firewall on a corporate LAN does have some advantages. With the latest version of Integrity from Zone Labs, you can secure computers from threats originating within your network as well as choose what file types should be allowed for transfer from PC to PC. In addition to that, Integrity 5.0 offers up some great new features including expanded support of 802.1x authentication and new support for ICQ’s protocol-level IM protection module. Zone Labs has certainly not lost it’s knack for the basics either. You will still get all of the features that you expect from stateful firewall protection to port stealthing. Zone Labs has done it again by allowing network admins to keep a tight grip on the managed network while allowing some flexibility for the end users.
