Hmm -- it looks as if OS X 10.2.4 supports journaling, and not just on
the Server edition. There's no "enable journal" button in the Info
pane of Disk Utility, but when I opened a terminal window and typed:
sudo /usr/sbin/diskutil enableJournal /
... It created a journal file and enabled journaling on my new
Powerbook G4.

since the developers of ecto and I have been working to enable ecto as

of desktop blog publishing tools which FeedDemon already
auto-detects:

all you need to do is right-click a news item in FeedDemon's news item

says it has new evidence that Earth is not even halfway through the
current warm era.
Wow. Say that 10 times fast. Seriously though, I got a
nice email yesterday from James Robertson of Cincom
Smalltalk who is also the individual responsible for the
BottomFeeder RSS aggregator. He let me know that he's
added support for Feedster as a search option within
BottomFeeder. That's very cool. Here's some more info on
BottomFeeder:
Now here's the interesting thing, look at all the supported
platforms:
Windows
Mac OS8, OS9
Solaris
HPUX 10
SGI
Linux 86
Mac OSX
AIX
HPUX 11
Alpha Unix
This is written in Cincom Smalltalk and the number of platforms
available is a huge endorsement for the portability that Cincom must
offer. Neat. Thank you James !
Random humor that's running through my brain right now, I can just
hear this: "Yes Virginia, that's right. You can now aggregate
feeds on your AlphaServer. Its wicked fast".

NDP supports bad Internet treaties06/24/2004 04:37 PM This is painful. I've been a New Democratic Party supporter all my
life, and was proud to cast my absentee ballot for Olivia Chow in this
year's Canadian Federal election -- and would love to see Jack Layton
in the PM's seat.
That said, the NDP's tech policies are rotten. For one thing, they
support WIPO's punishing Internet treaties. I hope that this is a
matter of ignorance and not a well-thought-out, stable policy. I'd be
happy to talk to any NDP policy person about these treaties, and why
they're so poisonous to liberty.
The NDP endorsed the Committee's recommendations on swift ratification
of the controversial WIPO Internet treaties, and even more
surprisingly, it gave its approval to an extended licensing scheme for
educational materials, despite the heated opposition from the
education community.
FWIW, I think extended licensing -- where all material is considered
to be covered under a blanket license once a certain minimum of
rights-holders have opted in -- is a great idea. It keeps holdouts
from stalling blanket license regimes that simplify re-use and
distribution.

In 1995, he was sending his
friends in San Francisco e-mail messages with lists of local events.
With their encouragement, this became Craig's List, which has now
expanded to Boston, Seattle, New York and 19 other regions. Nine years
later, Craig's List now gets 500 million page views and 4 million
unique visitors every month. The staff numbers 14, and the site runs
on about 30 Linux boxes. Craig says his success is based on "a culture
of trust." When I asked about his business model, he just laughed.
A self-described nerd, Craig has become somewhat of an
international celebrity. He has been asked by San Francisco
mayor-elect Gavin Newsom to join the mayor's transition team. "In San
Francisco City, people have given up because they seem to feel that
their leadership has told them that it doesn't matter if they're doing
a good job. It doesn't matter that much if they get things done."
Craig's mission -- should he decide to accept it -- is to recommend
how the use of computer systems and the Internet can better serve the
public. "So far, it looks pretty good," he says.
And coming soon to a theatre near you -- no kidding -- "24 Hours on
Craig's List." That's right -- the movie! Look for it to premiere at
South by Southwest or the San Francisco International Film Festival.

OK I got just one question: "It's been over six months

Craigslist support FOAF and opens up to the world?"
Mathematica Supports 64-bit Addressing
Mathematica Supports 64-bit Addressing06/22/2005 02:55 AM Wolfram Research, Inc., maker of Mathematica, has always been
quick to support the latest version of Mac OS. With the release of
Tiger, Wolfram is providing a Spotlight plug-in and Automator actions,
but the biggest and perhaps most significant change for Mathematica is
support for 64-bit memory addressing. And that means much more than
just greater speed and performance in fact, 64-bit addressing
made possible by Tiger opens up a whole new realm of problems that can
now be solved. [Jun 21, 2005]

Broadcom claims first Wi-Fi chipset for PCI
Express: PCI Express is the next next generation
of motherboard-based expansion technology with a high
er-speed switched bus architecture for better throughput. PCI
Express (PCIe) can push 1 Gbyte/s of data; even the fastest
proprietary flavors of 802.11 support about 3 to 4 Mbyte/s (30 to 40
Mbps), so it's not a stretch to have multiple cards in a single PCIe
chassis, even. The Broadcom chipset is sampling now.
Colubris Supports Voice05/10/2004 05:35 PM Colubris Networks, the maker of fat APs, introduced support for voice
over Wi-Fi: The new system will support SpectraLink's voice over Wi-Fi
solution. Colubris is touting its ability to isolate voice and data
services so that each can have its own security parameters and quality
of service profiles. The company says that previously companies would
have to either resort to the lowest common level of security or deploy
separate networks for each application. However, a number of WLAN
switch vendors support voice and enable the separation of traffic
based on the application. Voice traffic is often treated differently
than data traffic because most voice over Wi-Fi handsets don't support
VPNs. Enterprises that want to secure data transmissions using VPNs
must treat that traffic differently than voice traffic....

WWDC: Xcode 2 supports 64-bit application dev, more06/28/2004 04:28 PM "64-bit" is a mantra that this week's Worldwide Developers Conference
(WWDC) 2004 attendees are hearing a lot. The memory addressing
capability is something that's unique on Macs to Apple's Power Mac G5
systems. A year after G5s were first introduced, it looks like the
operating system and code programming tools are finally catching up.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs told WWDC keynote address attendees earlier today
that Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger" will ship with 64-bit support, and now
word has come from Apple that its Xcode 2
development environment will support the development of 64-bit
applications as well. Grok Description matches for Phelios Updates PTK, the SDK Now Supports 3D GrokA matches for Phelios Updates PTK, the SDK Now Supports 3D
