Faster iPhoto with Buddy

Faster iPhoto with Buddy 01/05/2004 03:43 AM
Thanks to Cory for sending me iPhoto Buddy a while back, after I was complaining how slow iPhoto was. I finally got around to some (rather tedious) division of my library (by years -- '98 through '04), and I'm a much happier iPhoto camper. Much zippier (and I don't have to look at past pictures I'm glad to have but don't really want to see on a daily basis). Now, I just gotta get a camera.

First Look: iPhoto 5

First Look: iPhoto 5 02/01/2005 09:55 PM
At times, previous releases of Apple's digital photo management program iPhoto came across as catch-up efforts -- catching up to the features found in third party applications that came before it; catching up to the incredible pace that people were shooting and storing digital pictures; and catching up to the potential of being mature Mac OS X applications that aren't hobbled by the halting performance and feature compromises that have been the hallmark of Apple's 1.0 applications of late. In many ways, iPhoto 5 feels like it's finally caught up. Some elements are organized a bit differently than before, but in a way that suggests the designers took a closer look at how people are actually using it.

Zippy iPhoto

Zippy iPhoto 03/06/2004 01:55 AM
Al Fasoldt writes for CNY, “iPhoto 4, the current version, is superb. Apple’s biggest change when it overhauled iPhoto was in the speed department. The old iPhoto ran on four cylinders. The new version has a V12. The old version toppled over in exhaustion when you told it to sort through 5,000 photos, but the new one zips through collections of 20,000 or more.” [Mar 3]

iPhoto to Typepad

iPhoto to Typepad 05/25/2004 01:18 PM

PhotoToTypePad/ a> has been released for public beta. I've been testing it for the past couple weeks and Jonathon has incorporated pretty much every feature request and comment I made. It works perfectly for me, I typically create a new gallery, toss some photos in it, rename the titles on the images, then just export to Typepad as a new gallery.

About the only downside I've found so far is the resolution limits at Typepad, which seem to force images whatever max width and height is in your settings (typically 500-640px). Also, I have no idea how much the final version of PhotoToTypepad will cost, hopefully it'll be $5-10.

Review: iPhoto 5

Review: iPhoto 5 03/30/2005 05:15 PM
Reviewing iPhoto 5 and Picasa 2, Walt Mossberg writes for the Wall Street Journal, “Both programs are packed with good features and have been significantly upgraded in their new versions. But iPhoto is the better of the two — mainly because, unlike Picasa and most other competitors, it totally frees users from understanding the computer’s file-and-folder system.” [Mar 30, 2005]
