A restaurant in Bradford, Pa. believes it's the first in the area to offer a hotspot: Customers, who include executives from Zippo and KOA, can use the network for free. The restaurant owners decided to offer the network when it ordered a high speed access line to speed up credit card payments. They hope the network will encourage more business people to visit. Earlier this week we wrote about a KFC in another small Pennsylvania town that was the first in its area to offer Wi-Fi. It appears that Wi-Fi continues to spread even to the small towns....

Computers Finally Get Small And Stylish

Computers Finally Get Small And Stylish 04/12/2004 02:17 AM
I've always wondered why no one (other than Apple, of course) had any noticeable success with more stylish PCs. For years, all PCs were the standard beige that we all know and hate. In fact, I was impressed years ago when computer makes dared to branch out into black PCs - though, they didn't seem to really catch on. However, it's beginning to make sense. PCs tend to go on (or more likely under) a desk somewhere where most visitors aren't going to see them. Thus, for most people, how stylish a PC is doesn't really matter. However, now that PC functionality is moving into the living room and homes are getting networked, it's increasingly likely that a PC will be seen by others - and thus, it's finally become time for the PC to get smaller and more stylish. The next generation of small, stylish PCs are just entering the market, and it looks like they may finally get some attention in the market place.

According to a new study from the National Center for Education Statistics ( NCES ), 90% of Americans aged 5-17 use computers. 59% use the internet.

"Children are often the first adopters of a lot of technology," said John Bailey, who oversees educational technology for the department. "They grow up with it. They don't have to adapt to it. ... Students, by and large, are dominating the Internet population."

The gang over at SETI without a doubt have 100's of thousands of computers using non utilized CPU cycles to look for ET. Now a scientist is using the same technology to give him more processing power than all of the super computers in the entire world.

In my opinion if I new my non utilized processor power is going to be used to help mankind I would gladly donate my time to that endeavor versus looking for ET. [Sm art Mobs]
