palmOne intros Wi-Fi card for Tungsten,
Zire handhelds
08/17/2004 04:55 PM
On Tuesday, palmOne Inc. announced that its first Wi-Fi card for the Tungsten T3 and Zire 72 handhelds will be available in early September. The US$129 card is designed to complement the devices' built-in Bluetooth capability with 802.11b technology that allows wireless access to the Internet whenever the user is within range of a Wi-Fi access point or hotspot. It fits into the handheld's SDIO slot and searches for available Wi-Fi networks when the user taps the setup icon on the screen. palmOne had not yet placed a product page for the new card on its Web site as MacCentral posted this article.

Tungsten T6 Rumors

Tungsten T6 Rumors 03/17/2005 03:51 AM

tungsten2005_1_.jpgThe freshest rumors about PalmOne's forthcoming Tungsten read a little lot like a fairy tale, so we won't get our hopes up just yet. Features for the T6 (or Tungsten 2005, as the case may be) include Bluetooth, Wavelan, 1GB of Flash memory, a 3 MP digital camera, an ethernet port, iTunes compatibility, an initial price of about $400, Graffiti 2 Plus with voice commands and the ability to clean your teeth while you sleep and print money.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure I have enough grains of salt to accompany this list, especially considering the hat tip from A_Man_In_Black in #gizmodo:

The Tungstens consciously don't include cameras, because of workplace restrictions. A new high-end Palm with a camera would be a Zire, not a Tungsten.

Tungsten T6 Rumors Revisited, Not T6

Tungsten T6 Rumors Revisited, Not T6 03/19/2005 02:45 AM

palm_one_logo.jpgSo it appears that the rumors surrounding the next Tungsten have just gotten even more packed with whimsy. Palm Addict has received word that the new device will have 4GB of internal memory, weigh in a bit heavier than the T5 and will include built-in Wi-Fi. It will not, however, be called the T6, or even be part of the Tungsten line, for the rumor whispers on that it will be released at the end of April as a new sub-brand from palmOne. Take your rumors with an extra dose of salt today, please. (Thanks, Sammy!))

PalmOne Tungsten T5 and E2 Rumors, Pics

PalmOne Tungsten T5 and E2 Rumors, Pics 08/30/2004 06:26 AM

T53.jpg
imageSo when I mentioned that we had some older news that needed to be revisited, this is basically what I was talking about. Some of the first information about the PalmOne Tungsten T5 and E2 PDAs has come to light, and while there's lots of interesting tidbits (rumor, of course) like the T5's lack of a slider like the old one, I think the most notable bit of news is that both of these will finally be running PalmOne's BEOS-influenced OS6. There is also a planned (rumored) OS6 update for the Tungsten C and T3 after the new T5 is released in April of next year. Looks like good stuff.

It is a little sad, in a way, to see Palm's form factor sort of giving up the ghost and moving to a PocketPC-styled slate, but really, it makes total sense. The silk-screened Graffiti area was really played out, and if OS6 does everything it promises to do, we'll want every bit of screen real estate we can get.

Palms, Pocket PCs and innovation

Palms, Pocket PCs and innovation 12/04/2003 02:27 PM
This has been tackled before (and certainly will be again), but Stephen Wildstrom explains why we've been seeing so much innovation with Palms lately (the Tapwave Zodiac, the Sony Clie UX50, the Treo 600) while Pocket PCs remain largely uniform. We do know that Microsoft is supposed to be loosening up a bit and letting manufacturers take more risks with Pocket PC design, but it's certainly taking a while to see some results. Read...

Jeff Carlson (~160 words)

Sync Buddy 2.0.1 Syncs Palms and Mac OS X -- Back in the early days of the PalmPilot, Florent Pillet released Palm Buddy (later renamed Sync Buddy), a Mac OS program for backing up data from a Palm OS handheld by opening an active connection between the two machines. Now, Pillet has rewritten Sync Buddy for Mac OS X. Sync Buddy 2.0.1 can back up handhelds via USB, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connections. It also lets you install files and transfer photos, as well as copy files to removable media such as SD cards. The utility is compatible with Hot Sync Manager (which Palm Desktop uses to synchronize data) and Mark/Space's The Missing Sync software, automatically disabling them while Sync Buddy is running, and re-enabling them when it's done. Sync Buddy 2.0.1 costs $25, and is available as a 4.3 MB download. [JLC]

This is almost certainly a fake Photoshopped image (someone out there must have a lot of free time on their hands), but a photo of what purports to be the Tungsten T4 has been floating around the Internet. Obviously palmOne hasn't uttered a word about this yet (or if they're even planning to make a T4), but fake or not, we do like the idea of grafting a mini-keyboard onto the Tungsten T3.
