As eagle-eyed
reader Thomas Shebest pointed out to me, it looks as if Apple has
removed the Mini (car) from its BMWYourIpod page. Either the Mini
isn't supported any longer, or, more likely, someone within BMW's
marketing department didn't want to dillute the Beemer brand with
their low-end cousin. Whichever -- it's still been removed from the
site.

AirClick Remote for iPod and iPod mini, a remote control designed, as

AirClick Remote is different from most iPod remote controls because it
works using Radio Frequency (RF) technology instead of infrared, so it
doesn't require a line of sight to the iPod and can operate up to 60

What's cooler than hanging with your fellow iPod users on Miami's
South Beach on September 1st? How about going home with a brand new
iPod mini in your pocket?
Yeah, that probably got your attention. But thanks to event sponsors
iPodResQ, the iPod mini is just one prize among many that we'll be
giving away at the South Beach iPod Garage Party. So what do you have
to do to win? All you have to do is show up with your iPod, connect it
to our sound system, and play "DJ" for twelve minutes as you share the
highlights of your own music library with the rest of us (as many
songs as you like, as long as it fits within the time limit). Yep,
it's your very own twelve minutes of fame.

12/29/2004 04:11 PMTokyo-based Tunewear on Wednesday announced four new accessories for

mid-January for US$54, features a large metal hook that you can use to
attach the leather case to a belt loop or other spot. A flap at the
bottom opens for charging the MP3 player in a dock; slots at the top

models, one that fits all 4G iPods -- including the iPod photo -- and
one that fits the iPod mini; the hook on the latter doesn't swivel 360

08/13/2004 07:17 AMGriffin Technology has introduced

for all dock-capable iPod and iPod mini MP3 players. The transmitter
broadcasts your music on any FM frequency on your car stereo, with a
backlit display that shows which frequency is in use, while the
charger keeps your iPod's battery at full capacity. The RoadTrip plugs
into any 12-volt outlet or cigarette lighter in your car and its
transmitter unit can be removed and plugged into a USB port on your
computer, enabling music broadcast from it to any nearby FM stereo.
Griffin has left the top of the US$79.99 device open for use with
other iPod accessories, which means RoadTrip isn't compatible with the
1G and 2G iPods that have FireWire ports on top.

Bait-cars play theme from "Cops" during
bust
07/09/2004 05:19 AMCops in Minneapolis have developed a fleet of "bait cars" -- cars left
on the street with the keys in the ignition as a honeypot for snagging
car thieves. The cars are equipped with hidden cameras and satellite
trackers for evidence gathering and apprehension, and with specially
fitted car-radios that play the theme from "Cops" during the bust
itself.
I remember the Toronto cops once tried a bait-bike and were quite
successful, snagging dozens of bike-thieves in a short time, but had
to give it up because the bait-bike got stolen while the cops were
busy arresting someone for trying to steal it.

New Sony Cybershots, HP Photosmarts,
Including Sony T3 (Rawr!)
08/30/2004 09:56 AM
Gott im Himmel, ze cameras! There have been like
two dozen new cameras announced in the last few weeks as various
manufacturers start ramping up for Christmas, and Sony and HP are no
exception. Among the new Sonys announced today are two pocket-sized
beauties that I want right now: the T3, an update to the T1 and
Japan-only T11, a 5.1-megapixel camera that is Sony's thinnest at less
than three-quarters of an inch; and the DSC-L1, a candy bar
4.1-megapixel unit that is only 3.75-inches long. Just when I was
ready to buy a new camera Sony has to muck it all up with at least two
that really do it for me. Oh, and there's also the new DSC-V3, a
7-megapixel unit that looks mighty fine, as well.
The HPs, well, they are okay, but I'll be honest, they don't get me
all riled up as much as the two featherweight cameras from Sony do. If
they fixed the middling image quality of the T1 in the T3, that may be
my next sidearm. Living Room has a bunch of the press releases, and
I'll add to this post if any more info comes through during the
day.

Olympics Shut Down Online Radio Stream
Of Radio Stations
08/16/2004 02:27 PMIt appears the folks running the Olympics are so focused on
controlling (i.e., "selling") the rights to broadcast accounts of the
Olympic games that they're
forcing
some radio stations to shut down their internet streams. The
radio stations in question have regular radio broadcast rights for the
Olympics, but since they didn't pay up to internet broadcast rights,
they need to turn off their internet streams for the duration of the
games. Considering the fact that it appears that no one is actually
attending these games in person, apparently, the Olympics has decided
that they're going to squeeze broadcasters for every last penny. Ah,
the spirit of the games.

While Sony Tries To Become Apple,
Samsung Tries To Become Sony
05/13/2004 03:41 AMHas anyone noticed that it's becoming increasingly difficult to tell
Samsung from Sony? It appears that almost everything Sony does,
Samsung does as well. So, it's really no surprise that a little over
a month after Sony announced plans to
build
out retail stores more for advertising than for sales,
Samsung plans to
do the same thing. Of course, while Sony says they're more
interested in using the stores for advertising, Samsung has gone one
step further. They believe so strongly that this "store" is just for
advertising that
they won't sell you anything at the store.
It's for showcasing products only. Also, a random note in the
article, but the same week that Sony and Nintendo announced their
plans for their next generation handheld gaming devices, this article
also mentions that Samsung is planning for its own N-Gage like
phone/gaming device. Apparently, the dismal failure of the N-Gage
isn't enough to scare them off.

BoingBoing reader micah says,
On Monday, September 13th the Nasa
indigenous people of Colombia launched a big three-day march.
Included in the march is a low-power FM radio station, broadcast from
a radiocicleta (an
adapted bicycle equipped with a radio transmitter and antenna that
will accompany the march). The signal will be picked up along the
route by different indigenous community radio stations and then streamed
on the internet. It is likely no coincidence that on Friday Septemer
4, the indigenous community station Radio Nasa was shut down by the government of
Colombian president Alvaro Uribe. The indigenous groups, composing
tens of thousands of people are marching to protest against the war,
neoliberalism, the FTAA, and constitutional counterreforms planned by
the government. The Colombian
Indymedia has ongoing coverage of the event.
