I didn't cherry-pick those three topics from Xeni Jardin's BoingBoing contributions to achieve some eclectic frisson -- those posts just happen to be her last three. They may be indicative, though, of Jardin's many tentacled exploration into dozens of subjects, not just as one of the four cornerstones of BoingBoing, but as a contributing writer for WIRED Magazine and on-air commentator for NPR's Day 2 Day radio program, as well as her duties as conference and art show organizer extraordinaire. We've all heard stories about convergence when it comes to gadgets, but for many people, all we've experienced is the nee d for a larger and larger gadget bag (and a corresponding increase in chiropractor bills). Of course, even worse than the gadgets themselves, may be each of the different chargers needed to make sure the devices actually run. The question, though, is whether or not this is a temporary state where the possible future we all like to talk about just isn't here yet - or if we're really moving towards a world where more devices is the norm, rather than the other way around. Right now, though, the situation leads to somewhat comic (assuming you're not the person involved) situations like the following: "After downloading some massive high-res files from the digital camera to my laptop, I needed to send them to my coworker's laptop. Of course, I didn't have a wireless local-area network (WLAN) card for that old IBM. Neither laptop had a disk drive. The PC didn't recognize a USB stick. There was no high-speed access at my funky hotel in downtown San Francisco, nor could I log the laptop into the LAN in the convention center's pressroom. And, the pressroom's dial-up connection took so long, the laptop's batteries died, the adapter being back at the hotel room."

So sure, Sony is throwing a launch party for the PSP at the Sony Style store in Manhattan tomorrow night, but the real news is: you might just get to meet Carson Daly. (I know!?!?) Actually, Danger Mouse is supposed to be developing, packaging, and delivering sonic science at the party, too, which is pretty cool (I've yet to buy into the DM hype, but sometimes a live performance is all it takes).

Oh, and if you're among the first 500 to arrive, you'll be able to purchase a PSP and a game at midnight. It's worth a shot (and I'll be there, which is almost as good as Carson Daly, right?) Cool Hunting has the flyer and details.

At the DGA in Hollywood tonight, SciFi Channel premiered the forthcoming "reimagined" miniseries Battlestar Galactica, which debuts Monday night, next week.

Cast and crew were present, along with SciFi Network brass. The event included a screening of episode one in entirety. Forget what you've heard about complaints from fans of the original series -- the new version is nothing short of breathtaking, and lives up to its producers' promise to turn the science fiction TV genre on its head. The two-part miniseries was co-produced by David Eick and Ron Moore (who also cowrote the screenplay), and masterfully, sensitively directed by Michael Rymer -- who is destined to become "untouchable in five minutes," according to a pre-screening quip from Eick. He's right. This stuff is the real thing.
