When Things On Your Mac Do Cool Things

Adventures In Mac-Based Audio
01/03/2004 12:11 AMIf you play an instrument, write songs, sing, or wish you could do any
or all of the above, take a look at DigiDesign's amazing little Mbox,
a complete audio production system with many uses. By Bob LeVitus (Mac

04/11/2004 01:21 PMOver at Loose Democracy, I've blogged about two questions I hope the
Commission gets around to: Why did we help 140 Saudis leave the US in
the first couple of days after 9/11? And why was Ashcroft warned not
to fly commercial airlines 6 weeks before 9/11? I'm trying not to be
paranoid......

NetFlash: If only they knew then what we
all know now
02/07/2005 02:00 AMNo analyst firm has a magic crystal ball. But they often proclaim that
they can see into the future, that the market for virtual Gigabit QoS
application firewall platforms will reach $1 billion by 2008 - and
yes, I just made that up. Maybe I could do this analyst thing. The
problem today is that people remember when you make outrageous
predictions, ever since the Internet bust dashed so many false hopes.
In our story today several analysts look back at predictions that were
way off.

They Knew It Couldn't Last Forever Twenty one hours ago,
Australian Police Officer Adam Dunning was shot twice in the back and
killed, becoming the first casualty in the
Solomon Islands assistance
mission. With the Australian government's quasi-imperialistic
intentions towards their
closest neighbours and its
refusal to sign a non-aggression treaty with ASEAN nations, how
long can Australia ride the line between

9/11 commission report: much of what we
knew was wrong.
9/11 commission report: much of what we
knew was wrong.
07/25/2004 02:44 AMThis piece in today's
New York Times outlines a number of the
presumed truths about 9/11 which the 9/11 commission report
effectively debunks. Among them:
The commission's report found that the hijackers had repeatedly broken
the law in entering the United States, that Mr. bin Laden may have
micromanaged the attacks but did not pay for them, that intelligence
agencies had considered the threat of suicide hijackings, and that Mr.
Bush received an August 2001 briefing on evidence of continuing
domestic terrorist threats from Al Qaeda.

story,

downloadable report, and
here is
Kottke's helpful outline of the lengthy report's structure.

05/15/2004 08:45 AMIf you've tried to comment on the site in the last few hours then
you'll probably already have noticed that I've upgraded to MT 3.0 and that I've turned on
most of the draconian comment features. In the last couple of days I
have had the better part of sixty comment spams from various hardcore
pornography, bestiality and rape sites and quite frankly I've had
enough.
Anyway as a result of the upgrade there are a few templates across
the site that have broken and look a bit crappy. I'll try and get that
stuff sorted over the weekend, once I've ploughed through my new book
on Illustrator. I'm so far behind in my various obligations outside
work that I can't really imagine I'm going to get everything done I
want to over the next couple of days, but I'm going to give it my best
shot. In the meantime, I can recommend Troy - it's long and
it's not particularly accurate, but it's mostly pretty compelling and
has a few ridiculous Classics jokes which appealed to me in it. Back
in a bit.
