Crime may not pay, but oh, what a deal!

Crime may not pay, but oh, what a deal!

Crime may not pay, but oh, what a deal! 01/04/2004 11:59 AM

Hey, that was my getaway car!!! Ever wonder where property seized from criminals and crime scenes ends up? Steal It Back/The Property Room brings police auctions online, and New York City is now participating too, guaranteeing an large influx of interesting stuff. Part eBay and part "Cops" episode, the Web site is alternatively cheery ("Hot Pursuit Specials!") and puzzling. How did the police end up with that collectible "I Love Lucy" plate anyway? Where did those eight candlesticks and a Bible come from? Are they really selling that hydroponic grow light — that staple of dorm-room marijuana cultivation? How long before they show up to seize it back?

Privacy is not a Crime! 01/11/2004 10:11 AM
http://www.privacyisnotacrime.com/ Privacy is not a crime, plain and simple yet it seems that our given rights to maintain privacy are being shredded away from us left and right constantly. What does it take to maintain our rights to privacy, and how far will we go giving up our rights? Sometimes a simple reminder such as this site will help us all remember what privacy is, and what we can do to protect our privacy both in every day life and online. Our statement is simple, privacy...

Sven Jaschan, 18, from Germany, is believed responsible for writing 70 per cent of all computer viruses received worldwide in the first half of this year, i.e. the Sasser and Netsky worms. At the time, he was a minor and probably won't face jail. Instead, he began a full-time job as a trainee programmer at the German firewall company Securepoint earlier this month. [news.telegraph]

Somebody stole my rubber boots! I've been meaning to buy a new pair for ages now, and once I finally manage to drag my ass to the store and get them, some lard-ass, no-good, glue-sniffing punkboy steals them.

Why? I have no idea. They were in the trunk of the car, and what do I notice this morning? The bloody thieves did not stop at the boots, no! They had to take the sixpack of beer from the trunk as well AND the entire car.

*sigh*

If anyone happens to see a red VW Vento CL with license KIF-588, drop me a note, or gimme a call at zero-five-zero 547 6463. Or the police. Thanks.

Many languages have failed honorably -- Eiffel, Dylan, Oberon, Icon, CLP(R), C+@, Oak, PL/1, Bliss, Algol-68, Pascal -- some more honorably, some less, but far too many to list, or indeed to count. Others struggle vainly along, confined forever to subsidized niches -- Erlang, Common LISP, REXX, Objective-C, Delphi, Ada. Only a handful of languages sustain a vigorous population of programmers using them, industrially, for their original purpose; we need not list them.

Researchers at Hewlett-Packard Labs found that a vast amount of popular bloggers stole ideas, topics, and content from lesser-known weblogs without any sort of attribution or crediting. The researchers created a new ranking algorithm called iRank to track the source of new ideas and topics, which you can play around with here.
