Striking A Deal

Striking A Deal

Striking A Deal 01/04/2004 11:56 AM

As seen in today's Sunday paper ad, Best Buy is selling Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike for $29.99 - which is $20.00 less than normal. The GameCube exclusive title is the well-received (if somewhat unoriginal) sequel/upgrade to Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader. If you can't find it at Best Buy (either online or at the store), try bringing the ad to Toys R Us or Wal-Mart for some price matching.

Raw Deal

Raw Deal 08/19/2004 06:34 PM
This morning we linked to a New York Times story on the resignation of Deal Hudson, the Bush campaign adviser and point man on Catholic voters who is also publisher of the conservative Catholic journal Crisis. Hudson stepped down ahead of an investigative profile being penned about him in a Catholic publication. The piece by the National Catholic Reporter's Joe Feuerherd has now been published, and it's a doo zy. Maybe now Hudson will stop lecturing people about morals and calling on U.S. clergy to denounce John Kerry "whenever and wherever he campaigns as a Catholic" because he doesn't agree with the Vatican on everything.

Hey, that was my getaway car!!! Ever wonder where property seized from criminals and crime scenes ends up? Steal It Back/The Property Room brings police auctions online, and New York City is now participating too, guaranteeing an large influx of interesting stuff. Part eBay and part "Cops" episode, the Web site is alternatively cheery ("Hot Pursuit Specials!") and puzzling. How did the police end up with that collectible "I Love Lucy" plate anyway? Where did those eight candlesticks and a Bible come from? Are they really selling that hydroponic grow light — that staple of dorm-room marijuana cultivation? How long before they show up to seize it back?

Possible Deal Aborted?

Possible Deal Aborted? 11/06/2003 12:44 AM
Claim: U.S. Government Spurned Peace Talks Before the War With Iraq - A possible negotiated peace deal was laid out in a heavily guarded compound in Baghdad in the days before the war, ABCNews has been told, but a top former Pentagon adviser says he was ordered not to pursue the deal, ABCNews has learned.
Baghdad Scrambled to Offer Deal to U.S. as War Loomed - As American soldiers massed on the Iraqi border in March and diplomats argued about war, an influential adviser to the Pentagon received a secret message from a Lebanese-American businessman: Saddam Hussein wanted to make a deal. Iraqi officials, including the chief of the Iraqi Intelligence Service, had told the businessman that they wanted Washington to know that Iraq no longer had weapons of mass destruction, and they offered to allow American troops and experts to conduct an independent search. The businessman said in an interview that the Iraqis also offered to hand over a man accused of being involved in the World Trade Center bombing in 1993 who was being held in Baghdad. At one point, he said, the Iraqis pledged to hold elections.

Tinderbox?
09/23/2004 12:21 AM

Of late I've been hearing more and more about “Getting Things Done” (aka GTD) and programs like Tinderbox? Seems that there's some new management trend starting to spread. Anyone actually use these systems? Are they useful for long-term productivity improvement? Before I go and investigate this too much further, I'm interested in hearing if it's just another management/productivity fad, or if there's something real behind all this. Both the book and the software seem to be getting a lot of conversation spreading about them.
