Gallery is a special promotional comic that was given away at the
2000 San Diego Comic Con from Wizards of the Coast. "The Battle For
Theed" by Michael Stackpole and Daniel Veesenneyer takes place during
the events of
The Phantom
Menace and introduces several new characters like Rorworr and
Sia-Lan (and also features a sneak cameo from a certain senator from
Naboo.) The story sets the stage for the
Invasion of
Theed roleplaying game and has an all-new cover by Adam Hughes,
who helped design the characters. While I've been searching for this
book for my own collection for awhile now, I've added scans from the
story to our gallery.

The free update, called Service Pack 2, is due out in August.
The company is urging consumer users now to turn on a function called

Microsoft's forthcoming Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) during the
holidays. Microsoft has said that this beta represents a subset of
what will be released when this software is finalized sometime during
the first half of 2004.
We tested the new software on a couple of test machines, and found it
to be very reliable during a couple of days use. It's not recommended
that you install this beta in a production environment, however.

I need to tell you a secret. I know fuckall about
lasers.
I know that for someone as intrinsically tied to the future as I am
it must be a disappointment to learn this, but it's true. I understand
that they shoot photons out in such a way that they lase and
are shiny and can occasionally and inexplicably be made into swords,
but beyond that I'm pretty much just happy they are around, because I
hear they're pretty useful.
So when Bigha offered to send me a Jasper Laser for review, I sort
of mumbled yes and forgot about it, thinking at the time I'd stupidly
accepted yet another boring gadget that I would be beholden to review
despite having absolutely nothing to say about it. And that was true,
actually, until I got drunk.

Acres, the man behind Bigha, who manufactures the unlikely combo of
bikes and lasers, has told us he has spun the lasers out into a new
company, called Lucky Duck. They've got a new $160 laser, called the
'Curve,' which has not only an ergonomic shape in five colors, but
features a built-in chip that keeps the laser tuned as close to the
5mw legal limit as possible, meaning you'll get as bright of a laser
as possible for as long as possible.
Just don't shine the Jaspers or Curves into airline pilots' eyes,
or you'll be up for 20 years in a Patriot Act violation. For real.
