It was brought to my attention today that Yahoo is copyrighting the RSS feeds for those that are setting up Yahoo 360 accounts. Some are already refusing to use the service because in a sense Yahoo now owns your content.

This may be a oversight on Yahoo's part and I hope it is, I will probaly use their service anyway but probably not the blog portion and give them some time to answer these issues. [Yahoo 360 Copyrights Personal RSS Feeds]

Folllowing up on this post about Yahoo webmail users receiving upgraded storage capacity in an apparent attempt by Yahoo to compete with Gmail, Boing Boing reader Brian says, "As a member of SBC Yahoo dial-up service, I received a notice yesterday that my email account now has a 2 Gig storage capacity. Obviously, this is separate from the free web-based email service from Yahoo, but 2 Gigs is bar far the most storage available to date, worldwide."

The Yahoo! email section has also seen a cosmetic upgrade along with 100MB email capacity (as opposed to the previous 6MB) and 10MB message size capability. Obviously in response to the new Gmail coming from Google no doubt. Check it out!

Late last night, Yahoo! launched a Creative Commons search engine, permitting you to search the web, filtering results on the basis of Creative Commons licenses. So, as I feel like I've said 10,000 times when explaining CC on the road, "Show me pictures of the Empire State Building that I can use for noncommercial use," and this is the first of about 13,000 on the list.

Excellent news. So who's next? Google? Nokia? Apple? Come on folks... ;-) Hardware, software and services that support Creative Commons is key for creating the sharing economy. Creative Commons was designed to enable machine readable encoding and this is a great example of why. Congrats to all who worked to make this happen.

Update from Boing Boing: DeWitt sez, "I added a Creative Commons search as one of the very first columns on A9 during our launch of OpenSearch last week at ETech."

I have about a dozen e-mail accounts spread all over the net but I keep a printout in our safety deposit box along with many other things a print-out of all of my login names and passwords in a sealed envelope.

But not everyone has pre-planned for something bad happening to them. A Marine who was unfortunately killed in action in Iraq has a Yahoo e-mail account that the family is trying to secure before the account expires. Yahoo has refused to give the account password to the family.

E-mail accounts could contain information that the family would cherish but it also could contain information that would leave a bad taste in their mouth. I think Yahoo should give in to the families wishes, but I would hope with enough public pressure they would turn the account over. [CNN]

Orrin Hatch wants to ban P2P networks that are used for music-sharing, claiming that their non-infringing uses are negligible. He even held hearings on his Induce bill to make the point. Video of those hearings are now available on a P2P system called Bittorrent that allows lots of people to simultaneously download large files by portioning out the burden of serving parts of the file to everyone who's trying to get a copy.
