notebook case
04/01/2005 02:29 PM
Longtime Apple notebook carrying case maker, Brenthaven, has introduced a new shoulder case that offers users protection for a 12- or 15-inch notebook in one bag. Unlike other 15-inch cases that can easily fit a 12-inch notebook -- although not as snugly -- Brenthaven says the new bag incorporates the CORE protection system, which adjusts its grip to accommodate different size notebooks. The Brenthaven Pro 12/15-inch Shoulder Case has a twin compartment with a combination accordion file folder and multimedia pockets designed for notebook accessories, cables and files. There's also an all-new organizer panel with a special iPod protective pocket and plenty of space for a cell phone.

Insurance Company Offering eBay

Insurance Company Offering eBay
Insurance
11/17/2003 04:17 AM
Everyone has heard about various eBay scams, and it's making people increasingly nervous to buy or sell products on the site. So, along comes an insurance company to try to help alleviate some of the problems. They're offering a form of eBay insurance, though it might not work the way you would expect. It's targeted at eBay power sellers who are willing to give up a small percentage of each sale for the right to display a "BuySafe" logo. The logo is supposed to link to a site that will verify that the logo has been approved. The insurance company (Hartford) then insures that the buyer will either receive the good - or the money they paid for the good will be returned. Of course, they'll only handle claims that occur within 30 days of the sale, so if the seller keeps telling you to hang on a little while longer, you might be out of luck. Also, eBay offers their own service like this, but the fine print is a killer. While the service promises to refund up to $1,000, it isn't $1,000 per purchase, but $1,000 per seller. So, if (as did happen) a seller with such a logo scams people out of a million dollars, the company would split $1,000 among all the victims. Not particularly comforting.

Spore

Spore 03/17/2005 03:12 AM

Will Wright Reveals Spore: This seems like wa-a-a-y too much work, which explains why I'm not a game developer. This is from the guy who wrote The Sims.

Spore could end up being quite literally the biggest and most ambitious game ever attempted. Although it begins at the microscopic level, with players taking control of a monocellular organism in a tidal pool, the scale changes as the creature evolves and grows. The end result: A massive adventure spanning an entire galaxy with player-driven gameplay and design shared seamlessly online among the entire Spore community.

sporebell.jpg imageIf you are a filthy hippie, and the neighborhood association has required you to get a real address for your yurt or Vanagon or whatever, you might as well throw on one of these strange aluminum and resin 'spOre Bells,' just to spruce the place up a bit. The smushy buttons will entertain and the internal LEDs will dance and shimmer like a tiny rave every time a Division of Family Services officer comes by to pick up your children. spOre Bells run between $29 and $89 (food stamps not accepted).

08/01/2004 03:30 AM
According to a recent study by Current Analysis, unit sales of notebooks equipped with a widescreen 15.4-inch display have steadily continued to climb throughout the first half of 2004. As of June 30, the widescreen market accounted for 48% of all notebooks sold, compared to only 15% in December 2003. The growth represents the highest share yet for the widescreen models since its introduction in the spring of 2003 and demonstrates widescreen systems are selling in greater numbers than its traditional square counterparts. Start-up launches Linux legal protection

Open Source Risk Management plans on Monday to begin selling Linux users protection against copyright infringement claims such as those levied by the SCO Group.

The New York-based company is launching the insurance-like offering after a six-month study that compared Linux with several versions of Unix. The evaluation uncovered no copyright problems with versions 2.4 or 2.6 of Linux's heart, or kernel, a finding that contradicts SCO's legal attack on IBM, AutoZone and DaimlerChrysler.
