Novell’s roadmap for Red Carpet

Novell’s roadmap for Red Carpet

Novell’s roadmap for Red Carpet 12/30/2003 01:21 AM

When I cast aspersions on the release of Version 2 of Ximian Red Carpet a few weeks ago, I just knew that someone from Novell would be rattling my cage (or ringing my phone) to try to “set me straight.” Little did I know that PR maven Rod Anderson would roll out the big guns.

Red Hat realignment opens door for Red
Carpet
11/04/2003 08:42 AM
Earlier this year Red Hat said it would drop Red Hat Linux to focus exclusively on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. In September the company announced that the community-based Fedora project would replace what used to be the free version of Red Hat Linux. Yesterday Red Hat told its customers when it would end support of Red Hat 9. Those developments raised important questions for Ximian Desktop users. Would Ximian support Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Fedora? And would the company position its Red Carpet service as the natural successor to Red Hat Network (RHN), since those who don't step up to Enterprise Linux will be left without RHN support for Fedora?

Smart Carpet for RoboVac Navigation

Smart Carpet for RoboVac Navigation 06/17/2005 07:11 PM
Vorwerk, a German company, is working on a Smart Carpet system to help robotic vacuums navigate. The system uses radio frequency identification (RFID) tags at approximately one tag every 1.5 inches square attached to the underside of the carpet. The robotic vacuum would have a grid map of all the unique RFID tag codes and an RFID reader so it would be able to read where it is at any given moment. A robotic vacuum should then be able to intelligently navigate even remembering which areas it has missed and be able to go back and vacuum those spots.

The bad news is that the Blu-ray movie format is not finished, so the $4,000 Blu-ray players that people already bought probably won't be able to play Blu-ray movies (suckers!).
