Novell plans to announce Wednesday at the LinuxWorld Conference and
Expo that SuSE Linux, the version of the open-source operating system
it acquired earlier this month, has passed a new level of security
certification.
In August 2003, SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) was certified to
meet Evaluation Assurance Level 2 (EAL2) of an internationally adopted
set of government security requirements called the Common Criteria.

Something you would never hear in the US:
"I became the most hated person in the municipality, but hey, that's
usual," joked Bräuner. "So, to people who didn't like it I gave away
Linux t-shirts and stuffed penguins."
Other users were upset that they could no longer run the front cover
CD-ROMs from their favourite computer magazines at work, or keep their
old screensavers. These feelings were assuaged,...

Googles Sues Google
Googles Sues Google
07/07/2004 11:21 AMIt's funny how all the lawsuits against Google just so happen to
appear right before their IPO. The website Googles.com just shot up
their traffic numbers by a ridiculous amount for their stories and
games for young children about an alien named Googles, by
suing Google for trademark
infringement. It turns out that Googles (the alien/children
folks) got a trademark for the name related to children's books and
toys in 1997, pre-dating Google by about a year. This wasn't a real
problem until Google decided to go public... er... start offering
shopping searches on their Froogle website that offered links to
children's toys, games and books. The folks behind Googles' say they
would be happy as long as Google.com pointed to their site any time
anyone searched for children's products (no, seriously). However,
they're upset that Google's management hasn't found the time to sit
down and discuss the claim seriously. Well, at least they appear to
have a stronger claim than
the
family of man who came up with the word "googol".

MVPs keep bashing competition of
Microsoft (Linux, Symbian) and cajoling
users to get Microsoft products
01/28/2004 01:31 PMApparently Microsoft MVPs not only are helping users of Microsoft
products, but are also officially bashing Microsoft´s competition:
Robert Levy says that Windows Mobile from Microsoft is better than
Linux, because operators will earn less money with Linux (and thus
forgets one important factor: users don´t like to part with their
money very much): Linux is proclaiming "Pick me! I´ll decrease your
costs!" while Microsoft is getting right to the heart of the matter by
boasting "Pick me! I´ll increase your revenue." One offers to cut the
cost of each device by a few dollars. The other offers to increase the
amount of money customers pay to their carrier each month by a few
dollars. This doesn´t sound like a very difficult decision to me.

09/15/2002 11:22 AMPHP, a server-side scripting language that supports applications in
Web pages, is now the leading Web scripting language, according to
Wick Hill. The company is now distributing commercial tools from Zend
for UK developers working with the language.
"In the next six months, we will see a recognition of how much
critical corporate IT is based on PHP," said Ian Kilpatrick, managing
director of the Wick Hill Group. "It is absolutely endemic."
