HP to acquire Snapfish photo service 03/22/2005 03:15 PM
Google envy? We’ll never know. I have to admit that I don’t see a clear motive for this move. Admittedly, HP already does cameras and printers, but why muddy the waters with an outfit whose main real usefulness was printing out digital photos? We’ll have to wait and see… Aiming to boost its presence in the digital-photography market, Hewlett-Packard said Monday that it plans to buy online photo service Snapfish. Read more……

Swaroop wants to Wikify Yahoo! Notepad. Did you even know we had a Yahoo! Notepad? I bet many of you did not. I used to keep my grocery list on it back in 2000, but eventually gave that up for some reason. I still don't know why. I say we take it step farther and give some wiki space to every Yahoo! Group as well. I wonder how many groups would use it... Where else should Yahoo have wiki functionality...

FortuneCity has launched their new photo album service appropriately named “MyPhotoAlbum”. A premium service being offered to FortuneCity users, MyPhotoAlbum allows users to easily share photos with friends and family. While being offered as a free service to thousands, it seems very similar to Yahoo Photos offered for free through the Yahoo search engine portal. Unlike Yahoo Photos however, the first 10,000 registered users will be entered in a raffle for a new digital camera, gift certificates plus tons of other goodies. Since they are giving away free stuff, I entered just a few minutes ago. With any luck, I will be one of the lucky few that will be coming away with a little more than a cool place to store and share my pictures. To be blunt, I want that digital camera. After all, the price is right. ;o)

Yahoo announced that they will start to increase all webmail accounts to 1 Gig of space starting on April 1st. It will take about two weeks to finish the upgrade, but start watching your account next week. This will match the Gmail size of the email accounts and since it sounds like Gmail will be leaving beta and open to the public in April too, Yahoo thought it would get a jump on things.

Steward is the co-founder of Ludicorp, the company that makes the Flickr software for sharing photos, so in some sense, he's responsible for this. Nice one, Stewart! Link
