It seems like an odd time for "new toy" stories to be coming out. They usually appear as we swing into the holiday season, not two months later. Anyway, it seems that despite years and years of failed attempts at making toys that interact with TV (Microsoft's Barney doll...), companies are at it again, but this time, they think kids will really want toys that interact with the TV. Of course, this faces the same problem that has come up every time people think up this idea. Most people watch TV. They consume it. They don't interact with it, and adding a toy in the middle doesn't necessarily improve things. Of course, there is an element of getting kids to read/sing/clap along with a TV, but it's not clear if the toy really enhances that process. Meanwhile, it seems like many kids are less interested in TV and more interested in the internet. Of course, it won't be long before we have toys that interact with the internet as well (I'm sure some are already out there).

According to trujedi, you should start looking for green tagged 50% off items on clearance, either already tagged or being tagged during the next week or so. BUT, the sales are already in their computers so you can take an item to their price checker and see if it's marked down. If it is, more info will say "50% off green tag". What? You thought I was selling my older hardware for the fun of it? Things I love about Kwyjibo, my new Sony Clie UX50: size, shape, weight, screen, features, functionality, convenience, power cradle. Things I don't love about Kwyjibo: (1) it relies on the Sony Memory Suck; (2) No keyboard navigation; (3) unmanageable USB port cover; (4) no way to flip between portrait / landscape mode; (5) deep reliance on ass-nasty QuickTime codecs; and (6) poor out-of-the-box Outlook integration. Even with these grievances aired, I must admit that I've been quite pleased with "it" so far. Then again, who's ever completely happy with their PDA?...

We've received a few reports of late regarding new toys on the shelf; Schwabie and Sergio chime in with word the second wave of Clone Wars Animated figures have hit Target stores in Burbank, CA and El Paso, TX. Warning: there are some major spoilers in here if you haven't seen it yet.

As a life-long Star Wars fan (but not fanatic), I flat out loved Revenge of the Sith. Before the 20th Century Fox theme song started, the only expectation I had was to finally find out the details behind Anakin's transition to the Dark Side, Padme's death, Luke and Leia's birth, and the near-extinction of the Jedi...everything that tied the somewhat lame prequels to the beloved trilogy of my youth. But as the movie began, I was surprised at how into it I got...I haven't been that absorbed in watching a movie in a long time. Sure there were some rough spots (mostly dialogue related, unsurprisingly), but since the feelings I have about Star Wars are in alignment with how Alan feels, they were largely irrelevant. It's much closer in feel to the original movies than the more recently filmed ones.

In some spots, even though I knew how things eventually turned out, I was still hoping that things would go another way. When the Emperor was trying to turn Anakin to the Dark Side, I held out hope that he wouldn't make that choice. I didn't want to see the Jedi slaughtered. When Yoda went to face the Emperor, I wanted that little guy to kill him. When Anakin and Obi-Wan faced each other at the end, I was hoping that somehow Obi-Wan would convince Anakin to step back from the Dark Side. But none of that happened and I was sad when it didn't...which was the biggest surprise for me, that sadness. Somehow, Lucas made a real old-fashioned tragedy here; he actually made the evil Darth Vader into a sympathetic character. At the end, when the Emperor tells Vader -- newly clothed in his now-familiar black suit -- that it was his own anger that killed his wife and Vader broke free from his bonds and screamed at the universe, suddenly he didn't seem so evil and imposing. Instead, you saw a small boy, manipulated, confused, and destined to spend the rest of his life inside himself, knowing that he destroyed everything and everyone he loved and having made his uncomfortable bed, that he would now need to lie in it.

LEGO image leaks are about as common as ticks on a dogfish, yet this Eurobricks forum post features what appears to be the first 'official' images of the LEGO mystery set 10131. So far LEGO has remained very hush hush about the contents of this set, but according to the latest images it appears it will include Darth Vader's TIE, possibly two standard TIE Fighters, and TIE Fighter (Drone?) from the Rogue Squadron video game. While we look forward to official confirmation from LEGO, it seems we can at least pencil this in as mystery solved.
