Bare Bones announces PunchOut 1.0 for

Bare Bones announces PunchOut 1.0 for
Tiger
04/01/2005 05:15 PM
Bare Bones Software today announced the forthcoming release of PunchOut, a new integrated backup system which safely records critical user data onto a durable backup medium. Available only for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, PunchOut employs a combination of Tiger-only technologies and a new data engine created by Bare Bones Software. Once installed on a customer's system, PunchOut employs the new "Spotlight" data engine in Mac OS X 10.4 to analyze stored data for backup. The new Advanced Prioritized Retrieval Integration Layer engine uses Spotlight in conjunction with a naive Bayesian reverse classifier to analyze stored data in real time. After analysis, data to be backed up is then submitted to the Functional Output Optimization Logic subsystem, which employs a user-configurable Automator workflow for submitting stored data to an IBM model 129 Card Data Recorder (included with purchase of the PunchOut software). The use of Automator grants additional flexibility and redundancy: if desired, the customer can configure up to eight card-punch machines to operate in parallel, which allows the use of PunchOut as a centralized backup server for enterprise workgroups. Completing the class-leading support of Tiger technologies, PunchOut includes a Dashboard widget that allows customers to observe the current status of their punch job. PunchOut will be available immediately as soon as Mac OS X 10.4 is publicly released, announced by Apple to be sometime in the first half of 2005. PunchOut will be suggested retail priced at US$149 with a discounted cross-upgrade price of US$114 available to registered owners of BBEdit, TextWrangler, Mailsmith and Salling Clicker. Educational discounts and site license pricing are also available.
