The Israeli Industrial Espionage Scandal

The Israeli Industrial Espionage Scandal 06/05/2005 11:46 PM

Computer spy scandal rocks Israel's business community: A hacking scandal is unfolding in Israel involving such salacious elements as an unpublished novel, a bitter divorce, personal defamation, and iundustrial espionage. Good read.

The virus allowed the person to control the computer, make changes to its programs, monitor everything it contained and raid it for information — all without leaving any hint of the virus's existence.

Investigators also discovered that the same person had sold the "Trojan Horse" to three of Israel's largest private investigation companies, which used it to illegally collect data for their corporate clients.

[...] Last week's arrests included executives from a major satellite television company, suspected of spying on a cable television rival; two cell phone companies suspected of eavesdropping on a mutual rival; and the Israeli importer of Volvos and Hondas, which is suspected of spying on the company that imports Audis and Volkswagens.

AOL Spam Espionage

AOL Spam Espionage 06/24/2004 08:21 AM

AOL says worker sold screen names: It'll be fascinating to see how this plays how.

An America Online (TWX) software engineer was charged Wednesday with stealing 92 million AOL screen names and selling them to a spammer, federal prosecutors in New York said. [...]

Both [the AOL worker and the man he sold the addresses to] were arrested at their homes Wednesday, authorities said. They face up to five years in prison and fines of $250,000 under a national anti-spam law.

Does AOL really have 92 million active user accounts? Or was he selling him expired names?

US Anti-Espionage Posters

US Anti-Espionage Posters 04/18/2005 02:56 PM
L oose lips sink ships!!!1 (There be images, some quite big here) I suspect a lot of MeFi shares my obsession with propaganda (and propaganda-style) posters, both domestic and foreign, as well as the photoshops that the Something Awful or Fark crowds generate. CoolGov has a link today to the Office of the National National Counterintelligence Executive and their Anti-Espionage poster collection. Some are great, some are almost pure propaganda, and some show how obsessed with secrecy our government has become. That lead me to Google to look for posters on the *.gov and *.mil domains. Check out the posters for "Venemous Snakes of Afghanistan and Pakistan", or what the well dressed airmen is wearing (*note the "Essentials"), posters from the NOAA telling you that "lightn ing kills", the Code of Ethics for Government Officers and Employees, and this one telling GI's why smoking could kill them.
