Why this is necessary I have no idea, but it appears this device hooks up to one's remote, allowing you to whistle codes into it, which are then translated into an infrared signal that then controls your television (or whatever). Or maybe it calls down a magical bird that pecks at the buttons with its beak, I don't know. Does it really matter? You'll look like a knob using this no matter how it works.

It's dirty, tactically, but if you live in a household where control of the remote has escalated into a full-blown peacekeeping operation, this Remote Control Jammer from GirlsStuff UK is cheap enough (at around $8) to buy multiple units to sprinkle like land mines around the smoking battlefield of your living room or den. The new version adds support for Sendo X, Motorola A925, Nokia 7610, palmOne Zire 72, TapWave Zodiac and Sony Ericsson T637, as well as limited support for Sony Ericsson's K700 and Z1010 phones until the company provides firmware upgrades. In addition, Salling Clicker 2.2 offers integration with Elgato's EyeTV, Slim Devices' Squeezebox audio player and other audio/video players; the ability to use Symbian OS smartphones to initiate connections; slide title previews for PowerPoint 2004; and more. This is a free upgrade for existing users, while new ones can download the application and use it for 30 clicks of the remote control device before paying the US$19.95 license fee. Apparently it is basically just a V600 in a different shell, which isn't inherently a bad thing, but it certainly isn't groundbreaking, either. It is still in my form factor of choice, though, so even if it can't pass the "able to SSH" test, it at least gets two out of three (integrated QWERTY, flipscreen). I won't be paying $500+ for one, but if you need it, let eBay be your guide.
