Video iPod? How Steve Jobs Can
Not Take Back His Words
08/27/2004 02:03 PM
Why is Apple looking for an engineer to work on video integration for the iPod, even after what Steve Jobs has said? Here are some wild and crazy ideas...
1. Apple will pioneer a new eyeglass add-on, where video will be piped to just one of the two lens. Now, you can watch video while exercising.
2. The iPod will not only be able to record audio, but video too.
3. Daddy and mommy can listen to jazz in the frontseat of their BMW, while the kids can watch Barney in the backseat. From the same iPod.
Do you have any ideas beyond what Microsoft is doing with its portable video player?

Success Of Download Music Stores Still
Means Industry Needs To Change

Success Of Download Music Stores Still
Means Industry Needs To Change
11/04/2003 01:19 PM
rax writes "Music downloading software ITunes is more popular than expected. By some accounts the software has been downloaded nearly 1 million times, which has some predicting that music downloads will increase 20-fold in the next five years. Yet the music industry isn't breathing a sigh of relief because even at that level, Internet downloads will only account for 6% of the music market. The Economist points out that the recording industry needs to realize that marketing music online will not save the industry, and that fundamental change is needed if they are to survive." Nothing particularly new in the article, but does include a good quote from Moby: "Why is a record company any more qualified to send an MP3 to iTunes than I am?" The recording industry is still focused on moving their current business model online - and not on using the fundamental nature of digital goods to offer a better product at a better price to their customers. Luckily, it won't take long for others to figure it out for them.

Mating Dinosaurs, crashed 'puters and
"virus' galore"
02/01/2005 08:42 PM

Special thanks to the script kiddies who've decided to make me misreable with over 50 virus' coming at me - at a time. And woe be it to the poor slob who's repair shop forgets to put the screwws back in the internal hard drive.

So all in all - Jan. 2005 was my lightest month of blogging - like ever. I think I offended Jason Kottke at some Vloggercon party, my clients are starting to get cranky and my kids finally got their birthday presents - which I had promised them back in November at their Bar Mitzvah.

The good news is that Carl is back, he's married and we're ready to rock the world.

First up - ourmedia.org.

It was great to see Greg Elin in NYC at Vloggercon and Mary Hodder at both Vloggercon and Blog Business Summit.

I also upgraded to MR 3.15 - but swtill no WYSIWYG editing. Anil promised something - but now I can't remember when we get it. He also said I get to come in and pitch open source infrastructure ideas to 6A - I can't wait.

They always seemed like the most likely candidates for becoming a DLA company - and supporting all sorts of new kinds of micro-content standards.

I have my fingers crossed on that one.

Screenshot Asterisk is a hybrid TDM and packet voice PBX (Private Branch eXchange) and IVR platform with ACD functionality. It acts as middleware between the Internet (IAX, SIP, MGCP, Skinny, H.323), telephony channels (like Zaptel, T1, PRI, E1, FXO, FXS, VoIP, VoFR, ISDN, modems, Internet Phone Jack, etc.), and applications (like voice-mail, conferencing, directories, MP3 players, intercoms, etc.). It has many advanced features such as a codec translation API. The base distribution includes several channel backends, as well as applications. However, the beauty of Asterisk is its ability to be extended using its APIs, dynamic module loader, and AGI scripting interface. End users can even write their own applications that run on the system in C or any scripting language of their choice.
