Pigeon view
12/22/2004 01:45 AMHere's an odd idea. The Urban Eyes proposal by by Marcus Kirsch (UK)
and Jussi Angesleva (Ireland) would feed pigeons tiny RFID
transmitters embedded in bird seed. When a transmitting pigeon passed
close enough to one of the CCTV cameras watching the streets, the
camera would transmit a video image to the Urban Eyes server. You
would then see how the city looked to a particular pigeon in the 12
hours between ingestion and excretion. This won third prize in the
Fused Space contest. The winning project proposed setting up light
sticks on a small Swedish island; lights would be...

The view from up here is amazing
The view from up here is amazing
04/11/2005 02:45 PM It's truly incredible what you can see when you look down from the
heights of idiocy -- the vistas are breathtaking. Right now I'm
looking at a wad of virus-generated mail bounced back to me because it
failed an SPF check at the receiver's end. Yep, that's right. Someone
configured their mail server to check and see if inbound mail had a
forged From address and, if it found that it was, bounce it back. Back
to the forged from. You know, the one you just checked and found
thatit didn't come from. Some days people truly puzzle me....

How to view SSL certificate?
How to view SSL certificate?
03/24/2005 01:57 PMIf you’re at a secure site in Safari, how do you view
information about the certificate?
In Firefox it’s easy—just click on the lock icon. But I
can’t figure out how to do it in Safari (or IE either).
I found that Keychain Access stores certificates, but I was hoping
there was an easier way to do this from the browser, or even from the
command line. (Google doesn’t turn up anything for me, so it may
be just that it’s not do-able, but I figured I’d ask
anyway.)

06/22/2005 01:52 AMAsk anyone why they spend an inordinate amount of time at a certain
Web site and typically the word "addictive" gets brandished about.
That's the word that "Chimahead," the chief roadie for the band
Nightmare Prophecy used when describing his attraction to the 3D Web
sites at Gogofrog.com. And it would appear he is not alone with people
from around the world building 3D webspaces and sharing a common
attraction to the unique form of expression the 3rd dimension offers.

When You Need a Panoramic View
When You Need a Panoramic View
03/17/2005 03:21 AMAdam C. Engst (~2990 words)
When you're setting up a database for
the first time, do you know exactly what you'll want out of it, for
the rest of the life of the database? Heck, do you know what you're
going want from it next month? You probably have a general idea, and
if you've created databases in the past or are working with a
consultant, you'll probably spend some time mapping out your data
structures, reports, and more. That work is usually highly worthwhile,
since it can be difficult to rework overall architecture in many
database programs.
