I understand how it works, so I can generally provide ball-park ideas about performance and suitability for a particular purpose. But until today, I had no first hand experience. Amazon.com has launched its anticipated full text search service. Users may now search not only bibliographic information about books, but also the text of roughly 120,000 books' content.

The searchable materials consist partly of already digital materials, and of some scanned texts. Results are in images, not text, and therefore harder to copy.
