RFH: Battery shocker
RFH: Battery shocker
11/25/2003 10:32 PM[RFH= Request for Help] I bought a big, fat Sony lithium-ion battery
(NP-FS21) for my digital video camera two years ago. Now, after fairly
minimal use, it's dead, Jim. When I plug it into the recharger, the
charge light comes on for about 15 seconds. The thing just doesn't
take a charge. Any ideas about how to regenerate it? Failing that,
does anyone have any recommendations for offbrand batteries that
actually work from vendors who don't suck?...

So if we can't have longer-lived batteries, Toshiba's new
Super Charge cells may be the next best thing. The company claims the
new cell charge to 80 percent of its capacity in just 60 seconds and
cap top out in just "a few minutes more." Not only that, but after
1000 charge cycles, the lithium-ion cell loses only 1 percent of its
charging capacity. Two of these cells and a nearby power outlet and
you'll be able to stay mobile indefinitely.

03/06/2004 02:09 AM I love my ThinkPads. I've owned several. I started with a 380D, then
got a 600E a bit over 4 years ago, and now I currently have a T21
(Linux) and T23 (Windows). They're the greatest non-Mac notebooks
money can buy. But I seem to have a particular skill when it comes to
decimating ThinkPad batteries. One of the reasons I own two T-series
notebooks right now is that they can share batteries. And between them
have three, numbered...

Newertech's 22 Hour iPod Battery
09/21/2004 10:38 AM
If you're an iPod fanatic (you know who I'm talking
about) you'd better have a sit-down. Xlr8yourmac recently reported
that after they replaced their original iPod battery with one from
Newertech they went from 4 hours to 21 hours of playtime. It cost them
$40 and five minute's effort, (although this definitely voids the
warranty). The $40 includes a tool set and installation guide, and if
you tack on the coupon code 'HIGHROAD' when you check out you can get
the NewerTech RoadTrip FM Transmitter device for only $9.99. Not bad,
especially if you've got an older iPod (1st or 2nd gen) with a worn
out battery.
