Bush versus Reagan (Iraqi versus

07/17/2004 11:22 AMA friend was complaining about Ronald Reagan yesterday, not
completely mollified by his death. What had Reagan done to
bother her, I asked? She was upset by Reagan's appointments to
the Supreme Court, by his inaction on AIDS, and a variety of
other domestic issues. How could she hate Reagan more than Bush?
"Bush is out there messing up foreign countries instead of our
own."
Despite not having voted for either man, I discovered a strong
personal preference for Reagan over Bush II. Reagan was an
American working on American problems. Maybe he didn't do as
good a job as we would have liked, but at least he was trying.
Bush, on the other hand, projects an image of spending all of his time
and energy thinking about Iraq and Iraqis. The only explanation
that makes sense is that Bush is actually an Iraqi. Who other
than an Iraqi would be so interested in Iraq? When W. is not
talking about Iraq he is often talking about Jesus so probably he is
an Assyrian Christian, one of the groups that lived in Iraq before the
Arab invasion (background<
/A>).
Perhaps Kerry and Edwards have a chance after all because they are
running against a foreigner.
[Note: there is some chance that Bush is Kuwaiti or Saudi
rather than Iraqi. The owners of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia were
badly inconvenienced by Saddam. There was a New York Times
article right after the 1991 Gulf War where they talked about how the
Emir of Kuwait would marry a 13- or 14-year-old girl every Friday
night and then divorce her on Saturday and that this was the kind of
lifestyle that American troops were supporting by giving Kuwait back
to the Emir--you could understand why the Emir, even with $billions
in foreign bank accounts, was so anxious to have his country
back. Still, there were never too many Christians in Kuwait or
Saudi Arabia so evidence points back to W. being an Iraqi]

Apache Cocoon Project
02/16/2004 07:43 AMApache Cocoon Projecthttp://cocoon.apache.org/Apache Cocoon is a web development framework built around the
concepts of separation of concerns and component-based web
development. Cocoon implements these concepts around the notion of
'component pipelines', each component on the pipeline specializing on
a particular operation. This makes it possible to use a Lego(tm)-like
approach in building web solutions, hooking together components into
pipelines without any required programming.
Cocoon is "web glue
for your web application development needs". It is a glue that keeps
concerns separate and allows parallel evolution of all aspects of a
web application, improving development pace and reducing the chance of
conflicts.

Apache Cocoon is an XML publishing framework.
Cocoon offers a flexible environment based on the
separation of concerns between content, logic, and
style. A centralized configuration system and
sophisticated caching help you to create, deploy,
and maintain rock-solid XML server applications.
Cocoon interacts with most data sources, including
filesystems, RDBMS, LDAP, and native XML
databases. It adapts content delivery to many
different formats, such as HTML, WML, PDF, SVG,
and RTF. Cocoon currently runs as a Servlet or
from a powerful command-line interface.
Changes:
This release adds some new features, fixes some bugs, and improves
performance and usability. This version also builds and runs under JDK
5.0.

from PHP to Zope/Python: Here's a good, simple testimonial as to
why one would use Zope over
traditional scripting platforms.
Zope is a beautifully integrated set of solutions to
common web development problems. It works in a substantially different
way to traditionally scripted web-applications. Think of it as a
collection of objects help with web publishing rather than a set of
scripts to do a job.
I have personally tried to use Zope on two separate occasions, but
I just couldn't get past the voodoo of it all. If you're coming from
a "standard" scripting background, be prepared to leave everything you
know at the door.
If you read through the comments, Zope seems to come out on the
short end of the stick. Many more complaints than endorsements.
There was also a link to FreeZope, which will give you a

programmers have hit the limit of what can be done with CGI. Zope
provides the basic services provided by CGI, such as allowing users to

receive personalized content, all while making software development
easier. In this article, I will cover what Zope is, how you install it
on a Linux or UNIX system, and explain a few of the concepts you'll
need to understand in order to be able to be productive with it.

04/13/2005 08:44 AM

1060 NetKernel Standard Edition is an Application
Server that provides a unique service-oriented
abstraction which is a convergence of the core
ideas of the Web and Unix. NKSE is a general
purpose modular infrastructure which comes with
powerful and simple XML processing tools. It may
be used for SOAP 1.1, 1.2, and REST Web-Services,
JMS MOM, XML pipeline processing, general systems
integration, or as a Web-application server. The
NetKernel abstraction simplifies complexity and
thus increases the scope and potential of the
systems built upon it.
Changes:

for creating RESTful SOA middleware. The RDBMS
services have been enhanced with connection
pooling, and transactions are now fully supported.

minor updates have been made to service modules.

has banned equipment that doesn't conform to WAPI: Never heard of WAPI
(Wired Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure)? You're not alone.
Neither the IEEE nor the Wi-Fi Alliance has information about it,
either, except that it doesn't include Advanced Encryption System
(AES) support. The Chinese government's standards agency developed
WAPI, and equipment cannot be imported or manufactured for domestic
use in China after Dec. 1 without WAPI in it. Perhaps WAPI has a
backdoor for government or is the brainchild of a domestic firm?
Unknown yet. Intel and others expect to skirt the requirement until at
least June, because devices manufactured in the country or imported
before Dec. 1 or are part of contracts for delivery that don't support
WAPI are still acceptable to sell and use....

WebGUI 6.5.4 (Default branch)
03/24/2005 04:09 PM

WebGUI is a content management framework built to
allow average business users to build and maintain
complex Web sites. It is modular, pluggable, and
platform independent. It was designed to allow the
people who create the content to manage it online,
rather than content management taking up the time
of busy IT staff. WebGUI comes with a full
discussion forum with the functionality of phpBB
or FUD Forum, plus events calendaring, a photo
gallery, a Web log (blog), FAQ and Link List
management, and a very configurable user privilege
and profiling system.
Changes:
The 6.5 series is now the recommended production release. This release
contains about a dozen small bugfixes.
