Several companies are developing crowd control devices for the Marines and select police departments that will deliver the shock of a Tazer, but use ionized gas, or plasma, to deliver the shock over a distance without wires, through the air. And the shock can be delivered to any number of people who get in the way. Shoot a car with it and it'll shut down the electronic ignition, stopping the bad guys in their tracks.

Early versions will have a limited range — 3 meters or so — but you gotta know that the boys in the lab are working feverishly to change that.

Scary stuff for bad guys.
