The Tab 2.2, the newest version of
its software aimed at animators who want to create content for the
Web. The upgrade adds compatibility with Mac OS X v10.3, a new text
tool, improved export into Macromedia Flash file format, the ability
to export into 3GP format for playback on cell phones and more. In
addition, Digital Video has split the application into Lite and Pro
editions -- version 2.2 adds three more features exclusively to the
Pro edition, including the ability to import hand-drawn images, or
those created with other software, and turn them into vector-based
drawings.

03/14/2005 06:18 PM I have a couple of several hundred MB tiff file (21600×21600)
that I want to slice into thousands of little tiny images. ImageMagick
doesn't seem to have a good way to do this via the API or the command
line tools (or did I miss something?) and it's using a billion zillion
MB memory loading the file. Adobe Photoshop handles the giant files
amazingly well on my PowerMac G4, but ImageReady (the "save your
images for the web" tool...

A beta test version will be made available on April 29, 2005,

effective radius of 10-15 yards, and comes in US and worldwide
frequency-flavors. They're illegal to use in most places, but not
illegal to possess, build or sell. I'm as bugged by mobile abuse as
the next person, but using one of these strikes me as a mcuh greater
breach of the social contract than talking too loud or subjecting your
coachmates to the default Nokia ring.

devices weren't exactly legal. The guy had fine print on his website
saying that the devices may not be legal, but failed to indicate that
most of his customers were pretty obviously breaking the law. Well,
now he's back. He's getting ready to launch a new website selling the
devices again, but insists that
this time he'll only sell them into countries where they're
legal such as France. However, he still insists he's completely
innocent of any criminal behavior, noting that selling the devices is
perfectly legal. It's just using them that's illegal.

It's dirty, tactically, but
if you live in a household where control of the remote has escalated
into a full-blown peacekeeping operation, this Remote Control Jammer
from GirlsStuff UK is cheap enough (at around $8) to buy multiple
units to sprinkle like land mines around the smoking battlefield of
your living room or den. (Also useful: actual land mines.) It works on

from NTT DoCoMo has been announced, the SO506iC, a twist phone that
comes in four colors with up to eight different styles of "fit
covers." And in a move our friend Gilad will be pleased with, a Disk
Jog dial has been placed on t he outside that allows users to scoll
and manipulate pages even with the handset is closed. Pleased the next
time he's living in Japan and subscribing to DoCoMo's FOMA service,
that is.

Blueserker passes on information from an article in
Singapore's Asia One about three students from Temasek Polytechnic who
have figured out a way to disable the camera function of select Nokia
phones via Bluetooth. While the concept itself is interesting - enter
a 'no camera' zone, and your phone disables itself automagically - the
fact that Nokia's Bluetooth implementation allows a remote user to
disable functions is probably the more immediate issue here. The
affected phones are the 6600 and the 7210 - an attempt to shut down a
7650 failed.

("midlet" for the technically inclined) which contains the
most basic first aid instructions in an easy-to-follow format with
pictures. The instructions are in Finnish only, but you can get yours
by texting "LATAA7 SPR ENSIAPU7" to number 17116. You need
to have WAP settings in place to make the download. I took a quick
look at it and it certainly seems like something I'm going to keep on
my phone for a long time.
(Though, be warned, the midlet costs 7€! Something that which
Helsingin Sanomat completely forgets to mention (boo hiss, this is
stupid), but that is declared on Red Cross's page...)
Just in time for the holidays, I would say.
