Considering the Bluetake BT400 GII Bluetooth headset? Even though it looks like a cast-off Romulan scout ship? That you have to put on your head? You probably better read this review at WhiningDog first. No offense to WhiningDog, but these Bluetooth headset reviews are only so much good without a comparison -- you can learn a lot about the features, but not so much about the relative sound quality. Still, they seem happy enough with it but when they complain about things about how it fits all you're really learning about, as a rule, is the shape of the reviewer's ears. When is someone going to start making a Bluetooth headset with a molded ear piece?

And last but not least (if you're reading from the bottom up; otherwise, welcome to the Nokia posts!) are these two new peripherals from Nokia, a new Nokia Wireless Headset HS-11W headset with a 6 hour talk time, and this Nokia Wireless GPS Module LD-1W that also connects to your phone or PDA via Bluetooth (the GPS may not actually be new - it seems sort of familiar - but I don't exactly recall hearing about it before). The GPS unit uses the same battery and charge plug as most Nokia phones, so you can use your existing charge to go along with it.

The headset should be out later this year, while the GPS unit isn't scheduled until Q1 2005.

Yahoo Inc., the most-used Internet site, has shut down all its user-created Internet chat rooms amid concerns that adults were using the sites to try to have sex with minors. The giant Internet media company closed down those chat rooms and the ability to create new ones "in the past week," said Yahoo spokeswoman Mary Osako.

Chat rooms created and sponsored by Yahoo itself remain open, Osako said. The number of user-created chat rooms is variable at any given time and Yahoo does not track that figure, she said. The user-created chat rooms in question, where Internet users converse in real time, had names including "Girls 13 And Under For Older Guys" and "Girls 13 And Up For Much Older Men" and were all listed under "education chat rooms," Houston television station KPRC reported.

Of couse I don't like the new Yahoo Groups user interface, no surprise there, when you've become accustomed the way a piece of software works, and it changes, unexpectedly, well, it's like waking from a dream, one you weren't even aware you were having.

Certain things seem totally wrong, like the huge places for pictures for each of the groups. Most groups don't have them, so the box says "add photo." I wonder if more people are going to add photos now (and was it an attempt to be like Flickr, I wonder?) The tradeoff seems unreasonable. Now there's room for far-fewer groups on a page.

They also vertically expanded the listing for members and messages, again, you can see fewer on a page. Maybe they're displaying more information, but there's also a lot more white space, which in some contexts could be nice, but here, is a waste, making you work harder to find the same information you found before.

They did change one thing that's not cosmetic, now all members can browse the member lists of groups. I wonder how much they thought this through, I'm pretty sure I don't belong to any groups I wouldn't want people to know about. Hmmm.

It was brought to my attention today that Yahoo is copyrighting the RSS feeds for those that are setting up Yahoo 360 accounts. Some are already refusing to use the service because in a sense Yahoo now owns your content.
