The Different Ecommerce Habits Of Men

The Different Ecommerce Habits Of Men
And Women
11/10/2003 11:02 PM
A pair of unrelated studies suggest that online shopping habits of men and women really don't sound all that different from the offline shopping habits of men and women. The first study found that men are more likely to go online for larger purchases. The article suggests that men are bigger online shoppers than women, but the details show they're really talking about more expensive items. Meanwhile, the article about the other study suggests that it's actually young women who are doing the online shopping. However, again, when you look at the details, they're really talking about who's shopping at cosmetics sites, jewelry sites, and clothing sites, to which I think most people would respond with a big "well, duh!" Basically, the two studies show that most people seem to shop the same way offline as they do online.

arbitron_people_meter.jpgArbitron is testing their new portable people meter, a device capable of tracking all media you're exposed to throughout the day. The device relies on participating TV and radio stations that encode special inaudible audio markers in their programming. Arbitron is working on the next incarnation of the device, which will include RFID (for recording consumption of magazines, newspapers, your breakfast and the like) and GPS. The results of the device so far have shown that people are exposed to far more media than they either remember or admit to.

06/06/2005 12:01 AM

The referenced article caught me a little bit unaware, and as I sit here writing this, I wonder how many times I have been ripped of by online merchants that know a little to much about my buying habits. Little did I realize they are adjusting prices on a per customer basis, based upon your buying habits.

Does that make you angry, well it makes me mad enough to start doing some heavy research, and fight those companies I find out who are doing this!

If you are aware of some deceptive practices like this, then I want to know about it, and don't be afraid to give me all the juicy stuff. Have inside information that your employer or company that you are associated with is doing this, sell them out, and help me fight this practice. [CNN]

Symbian Likely To Lead Smartphone OS
Market Through End of Decade
04/26/2004 10:10 AM
Despite inroads by Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS, which has demonstrated success with Motorola among other handset vendors recently, ABI Research believes that Symbian will continue to lead the market for cell phone standardized operating systems. In a market that is still driven by proprietary OS, on the order of 98% this year, Symbian, Microsoft and Linux are fighting over a small portion of the total handset market. But 2% of handsets shipped - essentially all handsets defined as "Smartphones" -- still amount to about 10 million handsets a year. And ABI Research predicts that Smartphones and connected PDAs will represent nearly a quarter of all handsets shipped by 2009.
