Zend/Win Enabler - Running PHP on
Windows
12/09/2003 01:32 AMI've been
advocating
FastCGI as the most stable way to run PHP on Windows for a long
time. Now I see Zend has decided to commercialize such a FastCGI
solution.
Open source is an extremely incestous activity. Everyone works
together and competes together (I just hope they don't sleep
together). The FastCGI work was done by an Shane Caraveo, who works
for ActiveState, a company that sells products that directly competes
with Zend. And in the fine tradition of open source, there is always a
free solution when you don't want to pay anything - you can use the free FastCGI+PHP installer for
Windows I wrote a while back.

Radeon Enabler 1.0 unlocks Displays
utility for OEM cards
05/21/2004 12:42 PMDeveloper Bruce Luckcuck released
Radeon Enabler 1.0,
which allows owners of the OEM versions of ATI's Radeon 9000 Pro, 9600
Pro, 9700 Pro and 9800 Pro video cards to use ATI's
Radeon Displays 4.2.5 utility. The utility works with the
retail versions of those cards but was not made available in the OEM
versions. Radeon Displays provides access to such features as OpenGL
override, which allows you to create graphics options that will
override the settings found in an application, such as a game. You
need Mac OS X v10.2.8 or higher to use Radeon Enabler, which is not
supported by ATI or Apple.

PHPEverywhere: PHP 4.4 Breakage
PHPEverywhere: PHP 4.4 Breakage
06/17/2005 03:32 PMThis new
post on PHPEverywhere today points out two things: the PHP4.4
beta fixed some of the crashing issues in Windows he was having, and a
bit of bad news - a new, potentially nasty bug.
The bad news is this quite disturbing, as PHP4 has been out for over 5
years yet no one has found this error before. The fact that PHP4 is
known for reliability also suggests that references are a rarely used
feature. Now you need to use references a lot in PHP4 to implement OOP
well (otherwise all assignments create a duplicate copy of the object
instance), which also suggests the takeup of OOP is pretty low in
PHP4.'
He gives this example, with this resulting Warning message:
function &dosomething($a)
{
$b = false;
return empty($a) ? $b: $a;
}
Only variable references should be returned by reference
in d:inetpubwwwroottest.php on line 8
There is this bug
opened, but there doesn't appear to be anyone looking into it...
