Tiny tiny 4GB hard drive

Tiny tiny 4GB hard drive 04/09/2004 04:11 PM
So you thought the 4GB IBM/Hitachi micro drives as used in the iPod mini are small? Toshiba is making a 4GB drive that is only 2.1cm (0.85 inch) in diameter. (via Macminute) Less than 10 years ago when I had my BBS and FidoNet hub "the Source!" (spelled that way) I had a much bigger disk with much less capacity that imploded. Henrik Jørgensen came to the rescue, lending me a 4GB scsi disk and a scsi controller so I...

Requirements Management and XML

Requirements Management and XML 06/19/2004 01:28 PM

In order to manage my increasing software development workload, I am building a requirements management tool. My goals are to:

  1. Make it simple
  2. Make it cheap
  3. Automate Document Generation for client review
  4. Track and Audit changes
  5. Manage Projects

Like any appliction, this tool needs to store information in some format. I have chosed to go with XML for obvious reasons. The .NET Object Serialization functions are great and make life simple, but they cause problems when the fields of the object change. As a result, I will need to create an XML format to store my requirements. I looked around the web for a while to see if anyone was defining a standard way to store software requirements, but my searches to find anything have failed. As a result I will creating a format and will be looking for developers to share their input. If you have any ideas, please share. I will post more soon.

New Americans with Disabilities
Requirements
08/27/2004 02:11 PM
The new Americans with Disabilities Act now requires a brand new surface texture on all new public sidewalk ramps called “Detectable Warnings,” or effectively, “Braille for your feet.” This gives blind and visually impaired persons a “tactile cue” to warn them of impending danger or a grade change. Required in all states, this new mandate opens up worlds of mobility for those previously held hostage in their homes for fear of safety issues most take for granted. [PRWEB Aug 26, 2004]

Plugin Contest Entry 1: Tiny Orwell 1.0: Password-protect your Movable Type blog using this plugin.

Tiny Orwell is a simple TypeKey-like authentication system written in the spirit of the Trackback reference implementation and blosxom. This script provides an alternate to TypeKey for small groups using MT 3.0D or any other tool that supports the TypeKey API with a minimal amount of fuss.

You gotta love the name of this plugin, don't you? Kalsey already did something like this, but using PHP.

In other news, I noticed that the MT Plugin Directory has been redesigned to fit into the main Movable Type site design.

The Movable Type Plugins Directory has relaunched as an official Six Apart website, featuring a whole new look, simpler organization, and a list of plugins which have been tested with Movable Type 3.

Nice that it's finally official. I think the girls were running it up until this point. I'd like to see the Movable Type Wiki become official someday. I contributed a fair amount to this resource just before it went public.

DLP There are a few more options in large screen televisions than there used to be.  In addition to CRTs and projection TVs, LCDs and plasma have come into their own.  There are also several new options like DLP, which this thinly disguised advertisement for Samsung explores.  It turns out that Gateway also has an offering in this area, as does RCA.

I found the techology behind this fascinating.  A color wheel, a light bulb, and a million tiny mirrors.
