Supersized PR con

Supersized PR con 06/23/2004 03:54 PM

Last year, when I heard that TechCentralStation was a lobbying group that participated in some shady campaigns disguised as journalism, I didn't pay it much mind, since beyond simple politics, it didn't seem to result in a spate of bad articles there. Well, I guess that time has passed, when I found their concerted effort to discredit Morgan Spurlock's film Supersize Me.

Looks like some whacky conservative outfit even tried to replicate Supersize Me, but with tons of exercise and different choices to somehow show McDonalds was healthy.

Supersized Me

Supersized Me 05/30/2004 01:51 AM

I finally saw Supersize Me and I was blown away. It's kind of like a jokey, dumbed-down version of the book Fast Food Nation, but really drives the point home. Last year I cut out some junk food from my diet ("french fry free in 2003" was my personal slogan) and lately I've been exercising a ton, but not losing any weight. After seeing this movie, I was reminded why. I've been lazy in the past couple months and I probably eat fast food of some sort 3-4 times a week. "Drive-thru no more in 2004" is my new personal slogan.

It's great to hear the movie is doing well, though I would have guessed that it did more business already. I hope everyone in America gets a chance to see it, it'll open your eyes, make you laugh a little, and blow your mind.

Forget Layoffs, Fire Them For Porn

Forget Layoffs, Fire Them For Porn 09/01/2004 01:26 PM
One writer at ZDNet UK is wondering if the porn excuse is being used as an alternative to laying people off. There are a growing number of stories about people losing their jobs for viewing porn on work computers, but the writer wonders how bad the offenses really are. He also notes that no one seems to complain when a company gets rid of people for porn, but layoffs seem like bad news all around. This seems like a stretch (and also seems to imply that almost anyone you'd want to layoff has been surfing porn on their work computer), but is still somewhat amusing. Maybe we'll have a different stat next to monthly layoffs: "fired for porn."
