MSDN Code Center and Downloads Updates

MSDN Code Center and Downloads Updates

MSDN Code Center and Downloads Updates 12/08/2003 12:06 AM

In addition to improving the UI and centralizing the download and code sample content by topic into the library, this project also helped us clean-up our back-end content management system for downloads and code samples by reducing redundant production work, removing an outdated publishing tool, and rebuilding an infrastructure that previously didn't scale to our needs. The new download management system now allows us to store our download data and bits in a scalable server environment with a distributed architecture. The new system includes a management and publishing tool which is used to submit, attribute, and publish the download or sample in a consistent way, thus providing us with the ability to more easily localize our downloads, show the most popular downloads, to query by topic or owner or other attributes, and to ensure that all downloads are published consistently across the microsoft.com domain—making it easier for you, our customers, to locate the information you are looking for.

The Web-based Code Center Premium (CCP) serves as the source-access mechanism for a number of Microsoft® Shared Source licensing programs. CCP enables licensees to access source code securely from any location and eliminates the managerial burden of maintaining gigabytes of code. The service provides just-in-time access and the ability to browse, search, and reference Microsoft Windows® source code through a smart-card-based, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection. Licensees can also use the free debugger to access symbols and source code remotely. Community resources, such as newsgroups and feedback channels, enable communication and collaboration among peers and Microsoft professionals.

Code Updates

Code Updates 12/11/2002 10:24 PM

I've updated (or at least started to) the "Code" section of the site. Everything now shows the source in a nice little div that scrolls. It's color coded too. Except for MTStats.

In case you ever want to use the php show_source(); function, but still want valid XHTML 1.1, try this. Its a little bit of a cheesy hack, but it works!

function highlightcode($file){
ob_start();
show_source( "$file" );
$t = ob_get_contents();
ob_end_clean();
$t = ereg_replace( "", "", $t );
$t = ereg_replace( "color=\"", "style=\"color:", $t);
echo $t;
}

Just make sure this function is included on each php page, and then call the function like this: highlightcode("./filename.php");

One last thing. My site finally shows up when you search for "Noel Jackson" at Google (it's the very last one, but at least its on the first page). Jeremy Zawodny is always glad to see his name at the top of the list in a search for "Jeremy". That's kind of the whole reason I made Googlefeeds in the first place.

Anywho... enjoy.

In the Charts: Media Center 2005 PCs
Take Center Stage Among Desktops
12/29/2004 11:54 AM
This month's Top 15 Desktop PCs chart highlights two trends: the emergence of powerful new gaming systems that have sophisticated style, and the rapidly growing selection of Media Center PCs, which expand PC-based home entertainment beyond gaming. Examples of the former are two new Athlon-fueled machines that sit atop the power section of our chart: Alienware's Aurora 64 FX-55 and ABS's Ultimate M5-64. Both of these systems are visually appealing without shouting "I'm just for games." Not only are they the two fastest systems on the chart, but they also produced outstanding sound with their high-end Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 cards and their 5.1-channel Logitech speakers (the X-530 and the Z-680, respectively).
