Writer's Cramp

Writer's Cramp

Writer's Cramp 12/06/2003 12:29 AM

Without blinking, I openly accepted the invitation to be a part of Blogging.la. And now that I've agreed to play an active role in the project, they've removed the toothpicks from my eyelids so that I can blink again. Who knew they'd have to resort to torture just to get people to post their perspectives there? I hear they made Wil drink from the bog of eternal stench. Of course, I couldn't say anything about it for the past 24 hours because I was in San Francisco for... something that I'll tell you more about in a couple of Wednesdays. Many questions are about to be answered, once and for all....

Writer's delight

Writer's delight 08/27/2004 01:22 PM
PhotoMatt links today to a brilliant site, Opening Hooks, which has a database of opening lines to books. That is a subject I have always loved, from the bad to the great, my all time favorite being: Aujourd’hui, maman est morte. Ou peut-être hier, je ne sais pas. J’ai recu un télégramme de l’asile: "Mère décédée. Enterrement demain. Sentiments distingués". Cela ne veut rien dire. C’était peut-être hier. Albert Camus, L'Etranger Somebody had already put the quote in, in the English, which is much inferior to the French, so I remedied that omission. What a great idea. If there is one thing that bloggers have in common, it is that they are writers, in most cases wanting to be better writers. What a fun way to help them, mobilize them, and energize them, all at the same time. Congratulations, Noah Feldman, whoever you are. And I hope you put search in soon....
