Gartner bangs Microsoft drum again

Gartner bangs Microsoft drum again

Gartner bangs Microsoft drum again 12/04/2003 06:02 PM

THE GARTNER Group is predicting that it's not Microsoft which should fear the Linux operating system, but the Unix vendors instead. That will obviously re-assure Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer – they've been worrying needlessly about Linux, and should go for a relaxing holiday in Phuket rather than flying round the world cosying up to governments. According to a report in CXO Today, Gartner made a presentation in Mumbai yesterday which claimed RISC/Unix alliances will crumble in the face of a Lintel (Linux-Intel) onslaught by 2006.

Gartner: Microsoft Security Improving

Gartner: Microsoft Security Improving 02/10/2004 12:13 PM
A recent Gartner report corroborates what industry observers have known for months: Microsoft's security initiatives are paying off for the software giant, and as customers move to more modern Windows versions such as Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, they will participate in the benefits as well. Gartner did, however, hedge its bets by chiding Microsoft for blaming many of its security compromises on those who write malicious code, perhaps in a bid to make its otherwise glowing report on Microsoft security seem less one-sided. The report is also careful to cast Microsoft's security improvements in guarded terms.

I heart BitTorrent. It's a poor man's TiVo! In a single day, I was able to catch up on my Scrubs and Simpsons seasons. Frasier, Friends... they're all here. That, combined with RSS, makes for a wonderful broadband experience. Props to rayg for helping feed my new addiction. Now I can stay abreast of all of William Hung's appearances. Here's to hoping they give him a card in an upcoming GPK release. FWIW, Topps just announced an all-new 2nd series the other day. Too bad they don't have an RSS feed, eh?...

Free drum loops for GarageBand

Free drum loops for GarageBand 03/19/2005 03:27 AM
iCompositions has partnered with Drums on Demand to give away a package of free loops for GarageBand, Logic, and Soundtrack. The collection, available exclusively for registered users of iCompositions, consists of 90 drum loops, 19 "single hit" sounds for applications such as sound effects, and 9 "loop layers" for building your own drum loops. Unlike other free loop packages, these loops were recorded live by Drums on Demand?s production professionals instead of being created through software-generated instruments. The Drums on Demand free loops package joins the recent AMG+iC package from loops producer AMG as the second batch of loops offered through iCompositions. The previous package contained more than 200 loops, making a total of 296 loops available to registered iCompositions users. iCompositions is a community for users of Apple?'s GarageBand music creation software. Launched just hours after Steve Jobs unveiled the application on January 6, 2004, iCompositions has grown to contain the largest catalogue of GarageBand music in the world with nearly 8500 songs from more than 13,500 artists.
